Para mahasiswa senior harus Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) harus mampu menciptakan lingkungan yang kondusif bagi perkembangan mahasiswa baru, tanpa praktik kekerasan atau perploncoan. Hal itu ditegaskan Menteri Koordinator Bidang Pembangunan Manusia dan Kebudayaan RI UMM Prof. Dr. Muhadjir Effendy, M.A.P. di hadapan ribuan mahasiswa baru (maba) pada Pengenalan Studi Mahasiswa Baru (Pesmaba) UMM. Adapun agenda itu dilaksanakan langsung di Dome UMM, 11 September lalu. Lebih lanjut, Muhadjir menerangkan bahwa kehidupan di masyarakat saat ini semakin kompleks dan penuh tantangan. Hal ini membuat pendidikan tinggi memiliki peran krusial dalam membentuk individu yang tangguh. Menurutnya, Kampus Putih menjadi tempat ideal bagi mahasiswa untuk menempa diri, tidak hanya dalam aspek akademik, tetapi juga spiritual dan sosial. Selama ini, UMM menanamkan nilai bahwa orang yang bermanfaat adalah mereka yang mampu membawa kebaikan di mana pun mereka berada. “Mahasiswa UMM didorong untuk menjadi individu yang diperhitungkan, baik di tingkat lokal maupun internasional. Hal ini didukung dengan program-program unggulan di UMM, seperti Center of Excellence (CoE) yang berfokus pada pengembangan keterampilan kreatif dan inovatif. Selain itu ada beragam pilihan program pengembangan lain di bidang akademik maupun non-akademik yang bisa saudara geluti,” ungkap Ketua Badan Pembina Harian (BPH) UMM itu. Terakhir, ia juga berpesan kepada seluruh mahasiswa senior untuk mampu menciptakan lingkungan yang kondusif bagi perkembangan mahasiswa baru, tanpa praktik kekerasan atau perploncoan. Menurutnya, senior harus menjadi contoh yang baik bagi para juniornya yang masih baru bergabung menjadi bagian dari keluarga besar Jas Merah Kampus Putih. “Peran senior di lingkungan kampus juga sangat penting. Senior diharapkan tidak hanya menjadi pembimbing, tetapi juga memberikan teladan bagi adik-adik kelas. Dengan dukungan dari senior yang bijak, saya harap juga semakin mempercepat mahasiswa UMM berkembang menjadi generasi yang mampu menghadapi tantangan global dengan baik,” pesannya. Di sisi lain, Rektor UMM Prof. Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si. menegaskan bahwa Kampus Putih selalu menyiapkan mahasiswanya untuk menjadi individu tangguh dalam hal pengetahuan, keterampilan, dan keagamaan. Melalui Center of Excellence (CoE), UMM menekankan pentingnya pendidikan yang mampu melahirkan sumber daya manusia unggul, dengan keterampilan inovatif dan kreatif. CoE ini dirancang sebagai pusat keunggulan yang mengombinasikan pengetahuan dasar (knowledge base) dengan keterampilan khusus sesuai minat dan bakat mahasiswa. Program ini bertujuan untuk membekali mahasiswa dengan kemampuan yang solutif dalam menghadapi tantangan di masyarakat. “Program CoE di UMM bersifat lintas bidang, sehingga mahasiswa dapat memilih program yang tidak terbatas pada jurusan yang ditempuh. Hal ini menunjukkan komitmen UMM dalam mengakomodasi pengembangan individu mahasiswa melalui pendekatan multidisiplin berbasis minat dan passion, yang diimplementasikan melalui praktik nyata,” tegas Nazar, sapaannya. Lebih lanjut, ia juga mengungkapkan bahwa tahun ini, UMM juga akan memperkenalkan pendidikan dasar digital kepada seluruh mahasiswa serta program SDGs yang berfokus pada pendidikan iklim dan tanggung jawab terhadap bumi. Selain itu, mahasiswa UMM akan diberikan pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia, Inggris, Arab, dan satu bahasa pilihan sesuai minat, sebagai bekal komunikasi menghadapi masa depan yang semakin dinamis. UMM-Singapore Polytechnic Jalankan Program Internasional Lex sejak 10 Tahun lalu
Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) terus memperkuat posisinya sebagai kampus global yang adaptif dengan menyelenggarakan program internasional tahunan Learning Express (Lex). Program ini merupakan hasil kerja sama antara UMM dengan Singapore Polytechnic (SP) yang telah terjalin sejak 2014 dan terus berlanjut hingga saat ini. Kegiatan ini mempertemukan mahasiswa dari kedua negara dalam kolaborasi proyek sosial berbasis metode design thinking. Dalam pelaksanaannya, mahasiswa yang terlibat dalam program ini tidak hanya terjun langsung ke lapangan, namun juga dituntut untuk memahami kondisi sosial dan merumuskan solusi nyata untuk pengembangan UMKM lokal. Proses ini juga diiringi dengan pelatihan fasilitator serta sistem pendampingan intensif dari dosen muda yang dikirim ke Singapura setiap tahunnya. “Lex merupakan program pembelajaran kolaboratif, ajang pembelajaran kontekstual yang setara dengan KKN internasional. Program ini dirancang untuk mempertemukan 30 mahasiswa UMM dan 30 mahasiswa SP yang kemudian dibagi menjadi tiga kelompok kerja lintas budaya dan lintas disiplin,” jelas Dr. Ir. Listiari Hendraningsih, MP, Kepala International Relations Office (IRO) UMM. Menurutnya, mahasiswa yang ingin mengikuti program ini harus melewati seleksi terbuka yang diumumkan melalui akun Instagram IRO. Mereka menyaring mahasiswa berdasarkan kemampuan dasar berbahasa Inggris dan kesiapan komunikasi. Terdapat proses wawancara yang dilakukan oleh tiga fasilitator dan satu koordinator dari UMM. “Seleksi ini, juga mempertimbangkan semester perkuliahan karena program ini idealnya diikuti oleh mahasiswa semester dua hingga enam,” ujarnya. Ia juga menambahkan bahwa program Lex memiliki tahapan kerja yang padat dan terstruktur. Kegiatan dimulai dari observasi lapangan di UMKM, lalu dilanjutkan dengan proses sense and sensibility, define, ideation, dan diakhiri dengan perancangan prototype. “Prototipe yang dirancang harus disetujui oleh pelaku UMKM, karena kami ingin solusi yang benar-benar bisa dijalankan, bukan sekadar gagasan ideal. Jadi para mahasiswa membuat prototipe berdasarkan kebutuhan UMKM,” ujarnya. Adapun untuk tahun ini, lokasi proyek tersebar di tiga titik: Kebun Strawberry, Tempat Pengolahan Sampah (TPS), dan Pondok Labu. Mahasiswa akan tinggal sementara di lokasi tersebut selama tiga hari untuk menggali persoalan yang paling mendesak. Setelah itu mereka melanjutkan diskusi di UMM. “Lex bukan hanya tentang menyumbang ide, tapi juga menjadi sarana untuk mengasah empati, ketelitian, dan kemampuan berpikir kritis mahasiswa dalam waktu yang singkat namun intensif, dengan tujuan utama membentuk karakter yang adaptif secara global, percaya diri dalam komunikasi lintas budaya, dan mampu merespons permasalahan nyata dengan solusi yang aplikatif,” kata Listiari. Ia menekankan bahwa Lex menjadi ruang pembelajaran sosial yang menyeimbangkan akademik, komunikasi, dan kepekaan sosial dalam skala internasional. Ia berharap Lex tidak hanya menjadi program seremonial tahunan, tetapi pengalaman transformatif yang mampu mengubah cara pandang mahasiswa terhadap diri mereka sendiri dan dunia. “Banyak dari mereka yang setelah ikut Lex menjadi lebih berani mendaftar ke program internasional lain seperti Erasmus atau studi lanjut ke luar negeri. Bahkan hubungan dengan teman-teman dari Singapura pun sering berlanjut hingga bertahun-tahun,” ujarnya. Ia berharap dengan program ini agar mahasiswa UMM memanfaatkan Lex sebagai batu loncatan untuk melatih kepemimpinan, berani tampil di ranah global, serta percaya bahwa setiap masalah sosial selalu punya solusi—asal ada kemauan, empati, dan kerja sama lintas batas. Dudung Penasihat Khusus Presiden Bidang Pertahanan di UMM: Gen Z Harus Ambil Peran Strategis
Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) terus berkontribusi untuk Indonesia, termasuk dalam bidang pertahanan. Salah satunya menghadirkan Penasihat Khusus Presiden Indonesia Jenderal TNI (Purn.) Prof. Dr. H. Dudung Abdurachman, S.E., M.M. pada 2 Juli lalu. Ia memberikan berbagai pesan bagi mahasiswa, terutama bagaimana anak muda mengambil peran strategis dalam pertahanan bangsa. Dalam paparannya, Dudung menekankan masa depan Indonesia berada di tangan generasi muda. Gen-Z harus mampu menjadi agen perubahan yang berdaya saing global. Namun, ia juga mengingatkan bahwa keunggulan teknologi yang dimiliki generasi ini belum tentu membawa dampak positif jika tidak diimbangi dengan karakter kuat, literasi budaya, dan pemikiran kritis. “Saya percaya masa depan Indonesia ada di tangan kalian. Tapi kalau tidak mempersiapkan diri mulai sekarang, Indonesia hanya akan jadi pasar bagi bangsa lain, bukan pemain utama. Internet itu bebas, tapi kalian harus bisa menyaringnya. Jangan hanya jadi pengikut arus—jadilah pembuat arus,” ujarnya. Ia juga menyoroti ancaman internal yang semakin nyata, seperti disinformasi, radikalisme, dan polarisasi sosial. Dudung mengungkap bahwa indeks kerentanan nasional Indonesia tergolong tinggi dan bisa dimanfaatkan oleh pihak-pihak berkepentingan jika generasi mudanya apatis terhadap kondisi sosial-politik. “Bonus demografi tidak menjamin keunggulan bangsa. Kalau kalian hanya cerdas secara akademik tapi lemah secara moral, justru bisa jadi bencana. Jangan hanya bangga dengan gelar, tapi bangun karakter. Jangan hanya pintar, tapi punya prinsip. Bangsa ini tidak dibangun oleh orang yang nyaman, tapi oleh mereka yang rela berjuang dan berkorban,” ungkap Dudung. Di sisi lain, Rektor UMM Prof. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si. menegaskan bahwa sudah menjadi tradisi UMM untuk mendatangkan tokoh nasional dan internasional demi memberikan wawasan serta inspirasi. Khususnya bagi para mahasiswa yang akan memegang tonggak kepemimpinan masa depan. Adapun kali ini, Kampus Putih mendatangkan penasihat khusus presiden bidang pertahanan. “Selama karirnya, Pak Dudung tentu merasakan banyak pengalaman yang bisa dibagikan kepada para mahasiswa dan kemudian digunakan untuk mengabdi pada masyarakat. UMM senantiasa berjanji untuk dekat dengan masalah-masalah masyarakat dan menjadi pioner dalam memberiakn solusi terbaik,” tegasnya. Selain itu, Nazar juga menegaskan bahwa sebuah bangsa yang besar adalah bangsa yang mampu membangun kerjasama dan kolaborasi produktif. Utamanya demi kemaslahatan umat dan bangsa.
