Good news once again comes from the academics of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). This time, Dr. Sholahuddin Al-Fatih, SH., MH., a lecturer at UMM’s Faculty of Law, was honored as a speaker at Tashkent State University of Law (TSUL) in Uzbekistan during a prestigious international forum. The forum explored the impact of international publications on authors, institutions, and countries in global rankings.
Fatih’s invitation to this prestigious forum was well deserved. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief of Legality: A Legal Scientific Journal, one of UMM’s journals indexed in Scopus Q1—the highest tier in academic journal rankings. This opportunity further demonstrates that Indonesian academics, particularly those who study domestically, can compete and gain recognition on the global stage. Beyond sharing knowledge, he also forged academic collaboration with TSUL Uzbekistan. This partnership is expected to create opportunities for UMM students and lecturers to pursue studies or exchange programs at TSUL.

In the forum, Fatih emphasized the crucial role of high-quality international publications in enhancing the reputation of academics, universities, and nations in global rankings. He also shared his insights on strategies for producing high-impact publications, highlighting the importance of collaboration with international authors. His presentation was based on constitutional law principles, which he has previously discussed in various academic forums.
“The event was attended by approximately 150 participants, including lecturers and postgraduate students, both in person and online. In addition to serving as the keynote speaker, I also had the opportunity to be a visiting lecturer in a constitutional law class, where I shared insights on Indonesia’s constitutional system,” he explained.
Fatih is a testament to the fact that graduates from domestic universities can still compete and gain recognition on the international stage. He earned his bachelor’s and doctoral degrees from Brawijaya University (UB) and his master’s degree from Airlangga University (Unair). Despite not holding a degree from a foreign institution, he has been invited multiple times as a speaker in various countries. In December 2024, he was invited to speak at the Faculty of Law and International Relations at Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), Malaysia. Two months earlier, in October 2024, he was also selected as a Teaching Mobility participant at Universidade do Minho in Braga, Portugal, with funding from Erasmus+.
“I received a warm welcome from the university. Moving forward, this collaboration is expected to strengthen academic ties between UMM and TSUL, creating more opportunities for UMM lecturers and students to advance their academic careers abroad. I also hope that more UMM lecturers will have the chance to experience opportunities like this,” he said.
