UMM FIKES The General Champion of National PORNIKS

The National Sports and Health Arts Week (PORNIKES) 2019 successfully delivered the Faculty of Health Sciences (FIKES) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) to be the General Champion for the first time after being held for 18 times since 2001. This year, PORNIKES was held in the Institute of Health Science (STIKES) Banyuwangi.

This event was held from the 1st to 3rd of November 2019 with various categories, such as volleyball, badminton, table tennis, chess, and choir. UMM competing with 34 Health Institutions across Indonesia. In the badminton category, there are men’s doubles, women’s doubles and in volleyball category, there are men’s and women’s volleyball.

In the men volleyball category, the UMM team competing for four rounds with 25 set points. They have dominated the three rounds after overcame some rivals such as Stikes Anwar Medika, Stikes Kepanjen, and the host Stikes Banyuwangi.

In the last semifinal round, UMM Men’s Volleyball Team loss with 3:1 point accumulation against the University of Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. “On the fourth round, UMM players were already tired, many have cramps, but we still fight until the end,” said Manahilul Irvan as one of the men’s volleyball team members.

While the badminton category women’s and men’s doubles, UMM won the first position in every category, with 2 sets final match, women’s doubles with (21:14) and (21:11) against Stikes Karya Husada Kediri. While the men’s doubles won with (21:19) and (21:14) against Stikes Jember.

On the closing night ceremony, UMM unexpectedly won gold as the General Champion. Consideration of accumulated points is obtained through the number of wins during the existing set of matches. "Despite the ups and downs, we believe that we deserve to compete in this event. All the hardships we've passed have been replaced with the perfect results," said Novia Dwi Anggraini one of the volleyball team player. (joh)
