Ho Ngoc Hieu (Vietnam) and Mohamed Ali Galai Elfouly (Egypt) representing the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) were determined as champions in the Quiz Intelligent Competition about Indonesia in the 2019 International Student Summit (ISS) held by the Directorate General of Institutions, Kemristek Dikti at Sebelas Maret University Surakarta (UNS).
The event which took place from 1 to 3 November 2019 was attended by 34 renowned universities throughout Indonesia, both public and private. UMM succeeded in setting aside several names in three phases. In the elimination phase, UMM met five universities. While the second phase four universities compete with each other. The third phase (semifinal) meets with four universities.
In the final party, a fierce battle between participants took place. Nine competing questions and three rotating questions ended with the same score. "Then it continued with three additional questions and Alhamdulillah we can answer 2 of the three questions so that UMM successfully won," said Faizin, M.Pd. as Head of the Indonesian Language Program and Development Division for Foreign Speakers (BIPA).
"We have prepared these two people with three consecutive meetings for the simulation of the quiz competition. Each meeting we ask 50 more questions about Indonesian insights with different questions each day. So when we feel that it's enough, we are also optimistic that UMM will win in the quiz competition, "said Faizin.
Universitas Muhammadiyah Yogyakarta (UMY), Universitas Brawijaya (UB), to Universitas Indonesia (UI) are some of the names of universities that were successfully set aside by UMM in the elimination phase. While in the final round UMM was met with the Ten November Institute of Technology (ITS), as well as the host of UNS.
In this ISS 2019, there are also various activities such as Workshop and Batik Competition, Regional Pop Song Karaoke Competition, Quiz Competition about Indonesia, Indonesian Language Storytelling Competition, and ISS 2019 Vlog Competition with the theme "Your Small Act for A Better Future", and International Student Association selection.
"This International Student Association is like the student president of foreign students in Indonesia. His elected vice president was Mohamed Ali Galai Elfouly, UMM foreign student from Egypt. UMM also sent delegations to participants of storytelling and quiz competition, "said Faizin.
Quite smart shows a lot of the quality and Indonesian-Indonesian identity of foreign students of UMM. "As a general question of historical insights, and knowledge of Indonesia so that we prepare two students to develop a student partnership scholarship," continued Faizin, Monday (4/11).
"I am very happy to represent UMM in competitions inside and outside Malang. In the beginning, I did not imagine that we could become the first place in the quiz competition because many universities took part in the competition. But with the support of a lecturer at BIPA and the help of my friend Hieu (my team at the competition). Alhamdullilah, we can win 3 stages in the competition and beat 33 universities, "said Mohamed Ali Galai Elfouly. (Win)
