The difficulty of processing rubbish in a village becomes a serious problem. If the scrap heap is not immediately resolved quickly, such as throwing it into the landfill (final disposal site), it will cause unhealthy environmental impacts and other environmental problems.

Departing from caring for the environment, a number of young people who are members of the Community Service Program of Community Empowerment Learning (KKN PPM) 148 University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) provided a solution on how to treat rubbish so it does not have use value.

"We want to give a solution to the problems faced by citizens about this garbage. Besides that, we also applied the theory that we got in college” said Public Relations Officer of PPM 148 KKN, Muhammad Jauzi Nafighair (6/14). This assistance was carried out in Tawangargo Village, Karangploso District, Malang Regency.

According to Muhammad Jauzi Nafighair which was familiarly called to Jauzi, the KKN PPM 148 Group was a special KKN for collaboration between Research and Technology Research and Technology and UMM. The support from the Dikti Ristek had a purpose so that students can intervene to help citizens solve environmental problems, one of which was waste management.

This Community Service program, continued Jauzi, is for 2 months starting last May until the end of June. Although the time is long, the effectiveness of Community Service program is carried out on Saturday-Sunday. As a first step, the team of Community Service program 148 conducted socialization in one of the residents' houses named Sulistyani, as well as the chairman of the Hope Family Program (PKH).

Before processing, rubbish must be separated between organic and non-organic so that rubbish can be used for economic activities and reduce the risk of damage to the land and failure of harvest around the landfill site. In order for residents to be aware of this danger, this team trained citizens on how to process rubbish into blessings.

Jauzi said that local residents could imitate one of the environmental leaders, Siti Rahayu, who has Kepuh Kreatifia (a kind of garbage bank) in South Kepuh Hamlet, Kepuharjo, Karangploso which was by making rubbish as an economic commodity that produced candles, pots, slippers and bags.

Jauzi said this material was one of the participants' concerns. Because of this material, residents were later trained to process rubbish into economic value goods. "We are still in the empowerment stage and are motivating people to sort organic and non-organic rubbish. After we sorted it out, we teach to process it, "he said.

Meanwhile, Field Supervisor (DPL) Musyaffak, M.Pd. explained, KKN PPM 148 was a special KKN. The participants were all study programs who have passed the selection test. The implementation of this KKN referred to the provisions of the Research and Technology Ministry of Higher Education as the main support. In this case, UMM acted as the executor.

Students before doing KKN are provided with knowledge about the method of sorting rubbish. Science can be applied to give solutions for society. It was expected that after being provided with ways to process rubbish, in the future, it can process rubbish for economic activities and reduce the risk of damage to the land and failure of the harvest.
