University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) always became winning regional and national debate contests. This time the proud news came from the Law Faculty (FH) student debate team which recently won the constitutional debate competition of the 2019 XII Constitutional Court (MK) which was held on 11-13 April 2019. UMM won the third place in East Regional level competition.
The UMM Law Faculty debate team consisting of Ratu Julhijjah, Nur Rizkiya Mukhlas and Yusya will be given time to rest and scheduled to re-train next Monday to compete the National Level Constitutional Debate. For this achievement, the UMM Debate Team had the right to represent the Eastern region to compete in the Student Constitution Debate Competition between Indonesian Colleges in XII in 2019.
"Alhamdulillah. This victory was due to the hard work of all UMM Faculty of Law academics. My Student younger is diligent to practice, compact. Bismillah, we will continue this spirit in the next round, which is at the national level, "said Sholahuddin Al-Fatih, SH., MH., Head of the UMM FH debate team when interviewed on Monday (4/15) in his room. Fatih was optimistic that the target team will win.

The East Regional debate competition was attended by 24 of the best teams from the eastern region. In the qualification section, the UMM Faculty of Law debate team joined in E group with UINSA and IAIN Pare-Pare. UMM qualified as the group winner and had the right to the quarter-finals. Then in the quarter-finals, UMM defeated UMI. Unfortunately, in the semifinal round, UMM must recognize the superiority of Ubaya with a score of 2-3.
In the race for third place, UMM had to face the home team, Unsrat. With full support from Unsra students and lecturers, the UMM FH team tried to play free without any burden. The strategy was successful. UMM succeeded to pressure the Unsrat team and set the match. Finally, the jury decided that UMM would be the third place winner, as well as successfully defeating the pressure of the host, Unsrat.
In the previous year, where UMM was the host of the Student Constitutional Debate Competition between Indonesian Universities XI in 2018, the UMM debate team emerged as the 1st national champion. In the Grand Final round, the UMM debate team was met with Universitas Surabaya (Ubaya). No just that, in this round were presented thirteen legal experts to assess the arguments of the two teams.
