University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) receive an operational permit Decree (SK) of Department (Prodi) Physiotherapy Profession, Friday (26/7). The accreditation SK numbered 0218/LAM-PTes/Akr/Sar/IV/2019 were directly given to the vice Rector I UMM Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin, M.Si, in UMM.
The presence of the Physiotherapy Profession also completes the professional education program in the Faculty of Health Science (FIKES) UMM, right after Nurse and Pharmacist Profession Departments. This establishment was based on the UMM Rector Application letter number E.1.c/970/UMM/X/2018 and KOPERTIS Reion VII Letter number 1882/K7/KL/2017.
After this Physiotherapy Professional Department operational permit, UMM becomes the first University in East Java that has that Department. “Congratulation to UMM, my wish after the permission given to the 56th Department will make UMM better in the future,” said Suprapto in the Rektorat Meeting Room after his greeting.
Through the accreditation number 0218/LAM-PTes/Akr/Sar/IV/2019, the UMM FIKES Physiotherapy Department recently acquire good accreditation with B score. “The presence of Physiotherapy Education Department Professional Program on the University of Muhammadiyah Malang answered the questions from the Physiotherapy Bachelor Alumni,” said Prof. Dr. Syamsul Arifin, M.Si, in UMM.
The learning process on this Physiotherapy Profession Department will be held for three semesters and start the registration for bachelor students Physiotherapy on the III Batch test (15 July – 22 August 2019). It is hoped after this department opening, it can help the Physiotherapy bachelor graduates to the next level.
"The limited availability of Professional Physiotherapy Programs in Indonesia makes Physiotherapy bachelor graduates not allowed to work. With the presence of the Physiotherapy Professional Study Program at FIKES UMM, UMM Physiotherapy alumni do not need to go anywhere," explained the Head of the Physiotherapy profession Department who was the head of the establishing taskforce team, Atika Yulianti, SST., Ft., M.Fis.

While in Indonesia, except White Campus, at least only five universities have Professional Physiotherapy programs. Among them is Aisyiyah University of Yogyakarta (UNISA), Solo Health Polytechnic (Poltekkes), Bali Udayana University, Makassar Hasanudin University (Unhas), and Surakarta Muhammadiyah University (UMS).
Not only facilities and infrastructure as the condition for the establishment instruments, 12 teaching staff with a background in a Bachelor of Physiotherapist and Master Physiotherapist with biomechanical; Sports; Safety, Health and Occupational Health (K3) and others background are also needed. "Thank God, everything has been fulfilled," Atika explained after giving the decree.
"The establishment of Professional Physiotherapy education program isa challenge, the Physiotherapy establishing land was more developed. Students are also expected to introduce Physiotherapy to the regions. It is because the number of Physiotherapists in east java is very limited, unlike in the other regions," she said.(joh)
