VIVAnews – The ferry Kartika KM Dharma sank in the Gulf of Bone Thursday night. Mengakut ships more than 100 passengers sank around 23:00 pm, Thursday, January 24. Crash site is 3 miles from the Port Bajoe, Bone, South Sulawesi.
Coordinator of the National SAR Agency (Basarnas) Bone, Typhoon Basri, said a few minutes after hearing the report, the team immediately moved to evacuate the passengers. The team consists of Basarnas Bone, Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Bone, Marine and Coast Guard Unity (KPLP), Transport and River Lake Crossing (ASDP), the Port Police Bajoe, and citizens.
"The team used ferry KM Musima, boat belonging KM Darma Kartika, as well as a number of fishing boats," said Basri Taufan to VIVAnews, Friday, January 25, 2013. Search and rescue evacuation operation was completed around 03.00 pm early this morning.
More than 100 people had been evacuated and taken back to Port Bajoe. So far there are no reports of casualties in the incident.
Based on information collected, KM Dharma Kartika leading Kolaka, Southeast Sulawesi, sank after hitting a reef in the waters of the Gulf of Bone, after about 1 hour depart from Port Bajoe, Bone.
When the ship sank, the passengers panicked and tried to escape. Thankfully the passengers had been evacuated. Besides carrying passengers, the ship was also carrying a number of expeditions trucks and buses. (ren)
