Muhadjir the UMM White Campus Former Rector for the period of 2000 to 2016, based on data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) in August 2019, national employment conditions were recorded at 2.55 million new workforces. "The human resources of our workforce are 57.54% with an elementary school and junior high school equivalent, and 30% have a high school / vocational school equivalent. While the percentage of the education workforce in Diploma, Bachelor and Masters and Doctoral degrees are only 12.4%," said Muhadjir.
He said UMM graduates were part of the 12.4% workforce who would now be ready to enter the workforce. The percentage of open unemployment is currently 5.28% or 7.05%. "So our open unemployment rate is quite high with more than 7%. Based on these data in education there are two things that cause the phenomenon. Namely the limited access and low quality of our higher education," said Muhadjir in his speech.
"Although UMM has 12 years of perched at the highest peak for universities in East Java. But I wish that the managers are not satisfied with it, you must continue to catch up with the others and must be the first in everything. Then, more importantly, this data shows that our education still needs to be greatly improved in relation to the mastery of engineering science and mathematical technology or called STEM," said Muhadjir.
