VIVAnews - Thousands of cars and trucks stuck in traffic on the motorway severe north Moscow, Russia, in recent days. Estimated congestion reaches hundreds of meters, some cars even have been stuck for more than two days.
Reported by Reuters, jams reach lengths of between 40-200 miles on Sunday. A motorist said that in 24 hours he only made it about a mile.
"Lots of time to reach due to congestion is not more than 55 miles and continued to fall away," said a police officer was quoted by Interfax news agency.
Congestion in the M-10 motorway linking Moscow to St. Petersburg was caused by nearly a meter of snow covering the road. On the sidewalks, open kitchen set up for the riders, but this does not cover the entire driver.
Most complained of running out of gas that is needed to turn on the heater in the car. Current temperature in the region has been below freezing.
"Eventually the driver's help each other, the problem is the government, no truck gas tank, no water, we were stuck," said a truck driver, Sergei, told the television station Rossiya 24.
Congestion has been a problem since the Tsarist Russian classics. Infrastructure of the country is also experiencing problems since the Soviet era. This is because the Russian budget used more for defense sector rather than housing, roads, health and other civilian purposes. (eh)
