Metrotvnews, Damaskus: Car bombs rocked fueling station in the district of Barzeh, Syria's capital, Damascus, late on Thursday (3/1), killing at least nine people - including children - and wounding 40 others.
The blast was aimed at fueling stations Qasioun near Military Hospital Hamish, media reports said on Friday (4/1).
He added that large fires have occurred in the blast and firefighters arrived on the scene and with difficulty to extinguish the flames.
All the dead were civilians who were lined up while waiting to fill plastic buckets and jerry cans with diesel fuel, said the pro-government TV station Al-Ekhbaria.
Television footage showed a number of plastic jerry cans scattered and floating in a pool of blood and the fuel, in the middle of a pile of rubble.
Five workers were removing the bodies were also seen torn out of the way, mostly just body parts.
The report said the death toll of nine, and added a large amount of material loss has been caused by the explosion.
The explosion has become increasingly common in Syria while the UN said more than 60,000 have been killed in 22 months of conflict in the Arab countries.
On Wednesday (2/1), a Syrian official source denied as "baseless" media reports that the rebels had taken control of a military base in the province of Idlib, northern Syria, the country's official news agency, SANA.
The sources said such reports were aimed at lifting the morale of armed groups, and added a military unit in charge of protecting the airport Taftanas had repulsed the attacks of armed groups.
