VIVANews - Turkey today began the trial of four former high-ranking Israeli military. They will be tried about the attack on the Mavi Marmara, killing nine Turkish nationals in 2010 while bringing humanitarian aid to the Palestinian territories of the Gaza Strip.

According to news agency Reuters, the trial is scheduled to take place on Tuesday in the city of Istanbul. However, the trial court is in absentia, or without the presence of the defendants.

The former Israeli military officers who would be indicted was former army chief Gabi Ashkenazi, former navy chief Eliezer Marom, a former air force commander and former chief Amos Yadlin air force intelligence Avishay Levi. By a Turkish court, each punishable Israeli officer was more than 18,000 years in prison.

According to the indictment documents as thick as 144 pages, they are accused of "encouraging the killing through cruelty or torture" and "ordered actions hurt other people with guns."

The defendants were held responsible for the Israeli military assault ship Mavi Marmara in 2010. Transporting 490 activists and journalists from many countries, including some people from Indonesia, the Mavi Marmara and five other ships were intercepted in international waters by the Israeli army on May 31, 2010 when coming to the waters of Gaza, the blockaded Zionist forces.

The violence occurred during the raid, causing casualties. A total of nine activists from Turkey were killed and more than 50 people - including some from Indonesia - suffered injuries.

This incident angered Turkey for Israel. That is why, even in absentia, Turkey wants to prosecute Israeli officials.

In response to legal process in Turkey, Israel unmoved. They just call it a "show trial" or "political theater."

"The trial was not feasible on the basis of any of the judicial system and that's just propaganda show. This represents only the interests of Turkey to address the issue through bilateral dialogue," a statement from the Israeli Foreign Ministry.

Turkish Foreign Ministry officials declined to comment on the Israeli reaction. He declared the Mavi Marmara incident has been processed by the legal system in the country. (Umi)
