By symbolically lighting the torch, the Rector Cup of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) was officially opened on March 21, 2023. The competition involving 2000-2500 participants has prepared 110 categories from 34 student activity units at UMM to win.
Various lively performances from students and guest stars also enlivened the opening: the marching band of UMM, a percussion team from Kampung Cempluk, and the Band Activities Association of UMM. Finally, Wahid Darjo, who became the guest star, successfully made the opening of the Rector Cup lively.
The Rector of UMM, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd., emphasized that the Rector Cup is the culture that the White Campus always does since it plays an important role in generating students' leadership personalities. Additionally, the yearly competition will aim to test students' mental resilience to make them strong and able to encounter pressure.
"This competition must be carried out and followed by a good mentality. Don't be angry and emotional, but it must be accompanied by a big heart. Face problems with a calm and cool mind," he said.
Fauzan also advised students to face challenges bravely and not run away from them. The White Campus students must become problem solvers, not the ones who make trouble.
Meanwhile, a psychology student of UMM, Nisrina Nabila Nasywa, admitted that she was enthusiastic about being able to enliven the Rector Cup 2023. She, who is still in her second semester, wants to know how exciting this event will be. Moreover, there will be more than a hundred branches of competitions like science, sports, arts, etc.
"The seniors said that it's fun and enjoyable, especially in sports competitions such as football, basketball, and volleyball. The atmosphere of the supporters is very lively and peaceful, as proven from today's opening ceremonial," she said.
Riri, her nickname, hopes this competition can run well and generate superior talents from students, who may be absent now so that it can shine more and make UMM proud in the national and even international levels. (put/wil)
