32 Contingents of Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) Enliven Underwater Navigation and Underwater Navigation Competition

32 volunteers of  Muhammadiyah contingent belonging to the Muhammadiyah Disaster Management Center (MDMC) compete in SAR Challenge competition entitled “Water and Jungle Rescue Challenge”. This is one of competitions held in the 2nd National Jamboree Muhammadiyah Volunteer in University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on Saturday (2/12).

There are some competitions held, which are Medical competition “Emergency Medical Team”, Psychosocial Intervention Challenge, Intelligent Disaster Response Contest and Photo Contest "Jamboree Photo Challenge".

The Coordinator of SAR Challenge competition, Fatkhul Faruq explained that, “Water and Jungle Resque Challege are divided into two, first one is Jungle Resque Challenge. Here, the participants should answer written questions given by the committee, finish ground navigation with map and make basic node. The secoind one is Water Resque Challenge. Here, every team do rescue procedures on the water. The competition is held in UMM lake in front of GKB I. After the competition, the committe and judgues will do resque procedures evaluation”.

Furthermore, Faruq explained that, “ Water Resque and Jungle Resque skills are very important for MDMC members. Based on the data received by MDMC, in 2017, there are more 130 cases in Central Java which need these skills”. He said that this event focused on the competitions. But, the most important thing is that every team knows their weaknesses in resque procedures and make a better improvement in the future.  Faruq who is also a member of MDMC Leardership Training said, “ I hope that, this competition will be a benchmark of competitence for every contingent that competes and they can improve their skills”.

Kawir, one of Jamboree participants and a member of MDMC from Kudus, realizes the importance of competence for every MDMC members. He said that competence is more important than winning the race. This event can be called as a gathering and reunion of MDMC all over Indonesia. To Kawir, this event is a tool to measure and to improve the ability of the competing team. He said,” I am happy because this event is held. I hope that MDMC can be better in covering natural disaster cases in Indonesia because it is our responsibility to the people”. (lus)
