364 students of Electrical Engineering Department Faculty of Engineering (FT) University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) received certificate of electronics profession from National Electronics Professional Certification Institute (LSPEN) on Wednesday (26/4) which was applicable at Southeast Asia level. Previously, those students had been through the competency test held by LSPEN on November 2016.

This certification was in line with the enactment of the ASEAN Economic Community (MEA) in early 2016 which required the Indonesian worker to compete with overseas worker. Through MEA, professional certification was considered as important one to support and provide formal recognition to compete in the world of work globally.

"The purpose of certification is a part of mandatory or obligation that every worker required to have certification based on the areas of expertise shown through competence certificates," explained Ascensor LSPEN Sunardi, S.H. in the symbolic handover of certificates of electronics profession in the Electrical Engineering Faculty Room of FT UMM.

To obtain the certificate, Sunardi added, someone who will be certified must pass three aspects of the assessment indicators including knowledge, skills and attitudes. "It's incomplete if a person has only his knowledge, but does not have the skills. Therefore, it is also incomplete if someone has the knowledge and skills but his attitude is not regenerated," explained Sunardi.

The certificate will be valid for 3 years and does not need to be updated within that time, a certified person still performs some activities according to the competence of the profession he has.

Meanwhile, Head of Laboratory of Electrical Engineering, Ir. Diding Suhardi, MT. explained that study program of Electrical Engineering will continue to increase the procurement of other competency test for Electrical Engineering students. "Opportunity to obtain electronic profession certificate at UMM is still free because it is still including by government subsidy program," concluded Diding. (ard)
