Many students dream of studying and working abroad. It offers unique privileges and a wealth of new experiences and knowledge to share upon returning to their home country. This dream became a reality for Aldin Ulil Amri Ramadhan, a Psychology student at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), who had the opportunity to intern at the Indonesian Embassy in Prague, Czech Republic.

As he is affectionately known, Aldin mentioned that he completed his internship at the Indonesian embassy in Prague for approximately 3 months, from September to December 2023. Each week, he was assigned various tasks. "During the past three months, the office implemented an internship system. Every three weeks, there was a rotation of divisions, with four divisions each presenting different challenges," he said.

In the first week, he was assigned to the Social and Cultural Implementation division. His daily routine involved assisting various film projects looking to shoot in Indonesia or vice versa. Aldin also documented and managed all the licensing processes for film production, actively participating in introducing Indonesian culture to the Czech community with the aim of building diplomatic relations between the two countries. The events were attended by the wife of the Czech president and ambassadors from various countries.

"The Political Attaché division was my next assignment. I conducted a lot of research on the political conditions of Indonesia and the Czech Republic, as well as global issues that were heating up. Not only that, I also prepared weekly reports that would be submitted directly to the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs," he explained.

He also learned a great deal in the Economic Intelligence division. Aldin delved into understanding the economic opportunities in the Czech Republic to collaborate with Indonesia and documented the import-export activities between the two countries. "I am very grateful for this experience. I was also taught how to gather sufficient data to manage finances," he added.

Aldin also shared that he utilized his free time by visiting historical sites in the Czech Republic. Exploring the country with the nickname of a thousand castles, he visited various museums to learn about its history. Moreover, being the only child in his family, he spent his free time visiting neighbouring countries of the Czech Republic, such as Germany, Poland, and Austria. He explored historical museums and natural tourist attractions often visited by travellers.

"This internship gave me many interesting experiences beyond my academic studies. UMM and my department were truly supportive throughout the internship process. I converted this internship into academic credits, making my learning process at the White Campus more manageable," he concluded. (ri/wil/fajr)
