UMM alumni are not only spread across various companies and institutions within the country, but also many are making significant contributions abroad. One such alumnus is Teguh Sri Wiyono, who has been serving as a Safety and Security Manager at Peace Corps Indonesia since 2015. He has provided extensive training for American volunteers who are sent to serve in schools and teach English.
In his role as Safety and Security Manager, he is responsible for ensuring the safety and well-being of volunteers during their service. This includes training on proper driving practices in Indonesia, educating them about Indonesian culture, and vetting the host families where volunteers will be staying.

“Before we send volunteers to their designated locations, we work with the government to access information about the area. Afterwards, my team and I visited the site to verify the actual conditions,” he explained.
In addition, the alumnus who graduated in 2005 mentioned that currently, three provinces are the main areas where the volunteers are sent. Among them are East Java, West Java, and East Nusa Tenggara.
He is grateful for the opportunity to work with Peace Corps Indonesia, especially since he has a strong background in English from his studies at UMM, which facilitates communication with international colleagues. This includes training and guiding American volunteers.
His love for the English language has deepened through several work visits to the United States. He believes that the international exposure he received at UMM was highly beneficial for students, especially those who had the chance to participate in exchange programs abroad.

“UMM is excellent in preparing its students to compete in the professional world. I have felt the impact of the education I received because UMM provides ample opportunities for students to develop their talents and interests,” he added.
He hopes that young people maintain a high level of enthusiasm and motivation in their studies. Success, he believes, will not come without effort. “It’s important to seize opportunities that come your way. Looking at where I am now is a result of the perseverance I’ve demonstrated. As a graduate of UMM’s English Education Program, I aim to have strong networking and communication skills to continue making UMM proud,” he concluded. (ri/wil/fajr)
