The University of Muhammadiyah Malang continues to get closer to the international world. It is not only done by students, lecturers, and employees. The alumni of the White Campus are also able to compete globally. Shanti Kuswandari, an alumnus of D3 Nursing, is one of them. She successfully pursued a career in Kuwait as a health staff at Mubarak Al Kabir Hospital in an intensive care unit (ICU).

Shanti, her nickname, admitted that the White Campus had a significant role in her career. One of them is the motivation that is continuously injected into the students. She remembered that a lecturer had worked abroad at that time. She said that the income received was very large if he could work in developed countries.

"It opened my heart and determined me that I should be able to have a career overseas one day. I have to dream big," she added.

She also received support and guidance from the campus, likewise, with the provision of qualified religious knowledge that has professional abilities and good self-kindness.

Meanwhile, before working in Kuwait, Shanti worked at the Aisyiyah Hospital in Malang while looking for information on working abroad. In 2001, this woman from Malang tried to participate in several programs to be able to work overseas. She must also learn English skills and nursing skills. Until finally successfully departed for Kuwait in 2004.

Life in Kuwait changed Shanti's life more or less. Both from the financial, educational, and religious aspects. According to her, there are many new life experiences that he has never felt in the country.

Even so, she also had to face many challenges. She started from cultural differences, food, work culture adaptation, and others. Luckily, Shanti is surrounded by friends and hospital staff willing to help when she is in trouble.

She advised students to prepare themselves as early as possible if they want to work abroad. The first is to learn foreign language skills, especially English. Even if you choose Kuwait as your destination country, English is still your first choice because most people do not use Arabic to communicate.

"Keep learning, and don't be complacent. In my opinion, now, my fellow students can find it easier with the training center owned by UMM. Not only Kuwait but also other countries to try, such as Japan. It does take time to attend training, but believe me, it will not be in vain," she concluded. (cdr/zak/wil)
