In the world of sports, injuries are the scariest thing for athletes. No matter how big the talent or how consistent the performance is, everything will stay the same when you get injured. It was said by a Physiotherapist alumnus of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Izzul Mujahidin.

He said that if an athlete had a severe injury that would not heal for years, it would hinder his career. He even can retire early and have to bury his dream. So the presence of physiotherapists in the world of sports is essential.

"Most people do not know the important role of physiotherapists, especially in sports. Even though we have important tasks such as recovering and maximizing the condition of athletes," he said.

Izzul, as he is often called, explained that physiotherapy or physical therapy is a series of procedures. They started by examining, treating, to evaluating patients who experience limited movement and body function. Physiotherapy processes can also reduce the risk of injury and movement disorders in the future.

Meanwhile, he has set up a clinic called Society Physiotherapy. The clinic, which was inaugurated last December, explicitly treats sports and musculoskeletal injuries cases. He has also joined physio sports organizations.

According to him, there are many main jobs of a physiotherapist in the world of sports. It started from being responsible for training programs for athletes, making assessments of the risks of injuries that occur, creating specific training programs according to the type of sport, or sometimes advising about foods suitable for sports consumed.

Apart from that, it also provides input to the coach regarding the situation and condition of a player. Is the player in question ready to play in a match, is he fit, and how many minutes will he play?

"A sports physiotherapist also helps improve his physical performance. Namely from an injured condition to a healthy and fit physical condition again. Usually, physiotherapists also provide recommendations on how athletes should train and warm up before competing so that the injuries we have experienced do not recur," explained the alumnus of the 2014 UMM Physiotherapy department.

He admitted that he got many things while studying at UMM. Not only knowledge but also connections, how to open a business, and how to maximize one's potential. Izzul assessed that his journey as a physiotherapist could not be separated from his experience at the White Campus. (cdr/van/wil)
