UMM Alumnus, Now a Commissioner of Pertamina

Becoming a commissioner in a large company, especially a state-owned company, is an extraordinary thing and a dream of many people out there. Abdul Musyawir Yahya, S.HI., M.H.,s an alumnus of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) who is now an Independent Commissioner of PT Pertamina Geothermal Energy Tbk. He is a 2010 student of the Islamic Family Law Study Program, Faculty of Islamic Religion (FIR).

However, Abdul's current career path is inseparable from his time as part of the red coat on the white campus. During his college life, he was very active in campus activities, such as the Student Executive Board and the Ikatan Mahasiswa Muhammadiyah (IMM) (trans: Muhammadiyah Student Association). According to him, campus is a place to gain knowledge, express, and experiment about the true meaning of life.

"It is clear that the current career is a result of the provision from UMM; the provision of knowledge that is theoretical and practical is excellent. Coupled with organizational activities in IMM and SEB, it strengthens soft skills, which are very useful anytime and anywhere, "he said.

He explains that his process to date has not been instantaneous but has been achieved through hard work and dedication. With a background as an experienced entrepreneur. Starting from the owner of Super Kamera Malang, Lumeo Audiovisual Malang, Panjava English Garden, Garden Coffee, Martabak Satu Juli, and Publisher of Akar. He registered in a professional manner, and from that experience, it became an important note for the company in assessing his eligibility as an entrepreneur.

"My major is Islamic Family Law, while this company is engaged in geothermal energy. It's a challenge, but because it's a mandate and responsibility, I have to be able to carry it out as well as possible," he said.

The man who was once the Chairperson of the Central Leadership Council of the Muhammadiyah Student Association for the 2021-2023 period said that his activity in participating in various organizations was not only used as a time filler. However, he also makes it a means of self-development. Abdul admitted that his organizational experience helped him sharpen his leadership and time management skills, which he now uses as important provisions in his career.

"The dynamics in life are very complex, we can start learning about them from the campus, which can be said to be narrow in scope. Although there is still a wider sphere up to the national and international level. I learned that very well when I was a UMM student, and I continue to apply it even though I am no longer a student," he explained.

Abdul also admitted that taking on the commissioner position was his desire to grow professionally. He also gave the message that honesty and trust are two things to be formed as early as possible. In addition, he also emphasized the importance of integrity and trust in the scope of the world of work, because according to him, wherever he is, a good role model must always be there.

"It is time for me to dedicate myself to the country, not just to community organizations such as IMM or Muhammadiyah. What we plant today we will harvest later, make the best use of what you can get on campus.
