Archery Club of the Ar-Fachrudin Congregation Unit of UMM: A Means of Da’wah and Sport

A hadith narrated from Bukhari and Muslim advises Muslims to do archery, swim, and ride a horse. The Ar-Fachrudin Congregation Unit adopts the concept, one of the student activity units of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang decided to establish an archery club in October 2021. 

The club coordinator, Anggi Ariansyah, stated that this archery club is under the control of the Sports Division for Interests and Talents of the Ar-Fachrudin Congregation. Besides it is the Messenger’s sunnah, archery can train vision focus. In archery, the oriented focus can control emotion inside the body.

“This club is open to the public, so everyone who is enthusiastic can practice. We routinely do the archery exercise once every two weeks. In the future, we will also pay attention to the practice situation,” said Anggi. 

This Governmental Science student said that this archery club can equip the Ar-Fachrudin Congregation Unit to spread Islamic missionary messages. In his view, performing da’wah can be done in various ways, especially in the middle of the developing era. So, it not only focuses on digital platforms and social media. Therefore, they try to attract students and the public to participate in this engaging activity, like this archery exercise.

Luckily, the campus fully supports this agenda by providing a set of bows and arrows. Hence, those who have potency or just want to try can practice their archery skill. On the other hand, the public and students’ enthusiasm to participate in this activity increases. Hence, Anggi and his team want to add their equipment to attract students to engage in this archery club. 

“Besides, with professional equipment, we also want to generate athletes who can make the campus proud through various championships. So, in addition to a means of missionary messages, this archery exercise can train students’ focus to gain numerous achievements in available competitions,” asserted the Ogan Ilir student.
