Although Ramadan will end within days, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang still dedicates to society. Recently, the team of UMM did social service in various locations. One of them was at Tawangsari Village, Pujon. Sets of activities done were package giving, stunting counseling, medical examination, and educative games for elementary students.
The agenda held on April 15, 2023, involved an exciting group: UMM Hospital representatives, Kamis Membaca and Bakti untuk Bangsa cars team, and the Lively Ramadan Event of the White Campus committee. Indeed, those cars always visit various regions and locations to improve people’s literacy.
The arrival of UMM was welcomed greatly by the people there; one of them was Heni Tri Susanti. She believes that medical examination is necessary for society. At least, they can know the general condition of their body, and so can the counseling related to health and stunting to mothers and toddlers.
“The counseling of UMM can naturally contribute positively and improve people’s health awareness. Many people, although they feel sick, but they do not immediately check their health condition with health workers,” says the woman serving as a midwife.
She expects the White Campus to visit not only Tawangsari but also other regions. Then, the benefits given can be widespread. Heni also wants the strong kinship between villages and UMM to steadily continue to other activities, like training or counseling in needed fields.
The Headmaster of SDN 1 Tawangsari also delivers a similar statement. In her view, children feel enthusiastic about the arrival of two educative cars of UMM. The UMM team provides a lot of books so that they can attract children’s reading interest.
“Indeed, we already have a library with miscellane books at school, but an event like this is necessary. It is because students feel that there is a new program that makes them enthusiastic again, especially with games provided by the team of UMM.” adds the Headmaster.
Umi also chats with the UMM team and asks about UMM educational car activities. Her team wants the KaCa and Terbang cars teams to come again, primarily when the mobile cinema car of UMM can also join so that it will be more joyful for elementary students and local people too.
On the other hand, the Social Service Coordinator, dr. Sri Adila Nurainiwati, Sp.KK. explains that this agenda indeed aligns with the mission of UMM, fundamentally synergizing with governments in minimizing stunting rates. Therefore, her team comes by giving counseling and donating packages to enhance nutrition and prevent stunting.
“We also come with the pediatrician to give understanding towards mothers so that they know how to prevent their children from stunting. Hopefully, what we do at least reduce stunting rates in regions. Besides Pujon, we will also visit Jabung,” says the Faculty of Medicine lecturer, who serves as a skin and genital specialist.
Elementary students also feel enthusiasm; one of them is Ayla Medina Zahra. She feels happy because the provided books are attractive and relatively complete. Notably, they seldom participate in an alike event created by outside people.
“There are a lot of attractive games. The students from UMM also provide doorprizes, which make us enthusiastic,” ends the elementary student. (imh/wil)
