Dr. Tatag Muttaqin, S.Hut., M.Sc, IPM, one of the coordinators of the Bamboo Institute, explained that the institution not only supports educational activities but also collaborates with small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in utilizing bamboo seedlings planted there. "There are thirty types of bamboo planted at the Bamboo Institute, and from this, not only do students gain new knowledge, but we, the coordinators, also learn," he said.
In addition to supporting research, the Bamboo Institute also plays a crucial role in developing the curriculum for the Forestry Study Program at UMM. Research-based learning materials and bamboo innovation have been integrated into the curriculum, providing students with knowledge relevant to industry needs. This also opens opportunities for students to develop high-economic-value bamboo-based products such as furniture, construction materials, and handicrafts, supporting the concept of sustainable forestry.
Moreover, Bamboo Institute UMM is expanding its collaboration with various institutions, both domestically and internationally. “We have also collaborated with various institutions, both local and international. This presents opportunities for UMM Forestry students to participate in international research programs or student exchanges,” he added.
