A book review about one of Mim Yudiarto's latest books was held at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) on February 28th, 2024. The book entitled 'Tak Kenal Maka Taaruf' caught the attention of many participants who were present. When he began to speak, Mim expressed his amazement that his book review event at UMM was the most lively among the others.
"I have visited ISI Yogya, ISI Solo, IPB, and others. Alhamdulillah, this is the most lively and crowded. Especially with an interesting concept like this," he said.
On this occasion, Mim briefly discussed the background of the work. It was a novel that was projected to be made into a movie. It began with the challenge of creating a novel in a difficult genre. A story that contains religious values, romance, comedy, and educational values.

"At first, I was challenged by Fajar Bustomi, the director of the movie Dilan. There were a lot of requirements, mainly related to his audience. The target market was pre-marital students. I was given one month to complete the project. I was challenged and finally finished it in just eight days," he said.
The man from Banyuwangi also gave some tips to the new writers on writing a book. He emphasized that a work of literature cannot be immediately judged as good or bad. The duration of the process also cannot be determined by a certain deadline, especially since literature is a work that cultivates feelings and imagination.
"Newbie or novice writers mostly think about whether their work is good or not. In fact, a good literary work is a complete work. The time spent on each book is also different. I have a book that took two years to complete," said Mim.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Setya Yuwana, M.A., as the book reviewer, said that in every era there must be writers who become ideal figures. Like in 1976–1980, which was the era of Ashadi Siregar with his works Cintaku di Kampus Biru, Kugapai Cintamu, Ali Topan Anak Jalanan, and others. They also had a writing style and language that were relevant in that era. Nowadays, literary works are also developing their grammatical styles and interests.
"Now is the era of Gen Z, and of course it's different from the past. There are many innovations and values that are relevant in today's work," he says.
The same thing was also conveyed by UMM Professor of Indonesian Language and Literature Prof. Dr. Joko Widodo, M.Si., who also participated in reviewing the book. According to him, there is uniqueness in current literary works. This is the deflection of proverbial diction, which can now be interpreted into something new. According to him, it is not a problem if the diction is constructive.
"The metaphor has been twisted. For example, from 'tak kenal maka tak sayang' to 'tak kenal maka taaruf'. It can lead to different interpretations. For example,'masih belum kenal, ya kenalan'. This is a segment that distinguishes the perspective of the old generation of the 80-90s era from the current Gen Z era," he ended. (Faq/Wil/Put)
