It has been over a month since Ardianeswari Putri Salifani, an alumnus of Physiotherapy at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), departed and worked in Sakura Country. She completed the specific skill worker kaiko training at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Vocational training center and has now received a three-year work contract in Hokkaido, Japan. She is also fasting there and wants to share an exciting story.
Dina, her nickname, said there were many unique things she found during Ramadan. Even though Japan is not a predominantly Muslim country, television stations often broadcast news about Ramadan. For example, regarding why Muslims fast, what must be done during fasting, to the prohibitions that must be obeyed from dawn to sunset.
She misses one thing from Indonesia during Ramadan, namely adzan, the sound of the call to prayer that echoes in every corner of the city. There, adzan is less audible, maybe even non-exist. This made it difficult for her to know when it was time for suhoor and breaking the fast.

"Fortunately we live in an era of advanced technology. I usually check the application for the local imsakiyah timetable or also browse the internet regarding prayer times," she continued.
Waiting for time to break the fast is her favorite moment. Dina often hunts for groceries every afternoon at the nearest shops and supermarkets. Occasionally she also adds a stock of snacks to be consumed at night. Moreover, she likes Japanese food such as mochi, dango, and onigiri.
Not to forget, she also shared tips for Indonesian Muslims who want to sort halal food while in Japan. First, Dina suggested avoiding eating junk food. Second, learn the kanji letters related to the meaning of pork because it will be beneficial for sorting out food. Finally, find out on the internet which foods or shops are halal.
"This is the first time I experiencing fasting away from my homeland. There is sadness as well as joy. For friends who are went abroad, don't be sad if you can't fast at home with your family. I'm sure there are many new experiences and lessons that can be gained in each country. Always take care of your health and keep your diet. Hopefully our fasting will be useful," she concluded.
