Dozens of participants from the Vocational Training Center (TC) of Muhammadiyah Malang University (UMM) successfully obtained competency certificates from the Japan Formwork Contractors Association (JFCA) on November 6. This achievement has prepared them to be dispatched to Japan to start their careers. The certificates were handed over by Yasushi Oshida, the General Manager of JFCA, at the UMM Vocational Teaching Factory.
Oshida congratulated the 16 participants and expressed his pride in their accomplishment. He hoped they would maximize their potential and the opportunities available in Japan. “I hope you will perform to the best of your abilities there. Always remember your family, friends, and the instructors who have supported you along the way,” he said, offering words of encouragement.

This is not the first time that the UMM Vocational Training Center has sent workers to Japan. In this second batch, 16 participants from various regions in Indonesia have been accepted into construction companies. With this certification, they have mastered skills in tools (dougu) and techniques such as Bekisting (formwork construction).
Technical Instructor for Formwork Japan, Tsuneo Takaishi, explained that the participants underwent a training period of approximately nine months, including Japanese language lessons and basic construction skills. They were also equipped with knowledge of safety and health regulations (K3), which are strictly enforced in Japan.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the UMM Vocational Faculty, Prof. Tulus Winarsunu, expressed admiration for how the 16 participants were able to pass their certification within less than a year. Previously, the UMM Vocational TC had sent 19 participants during the May-June 2024 period.
"Alhamdulillah (Praise be to God), this is the second batch. Today, they have earned two certifications, two skills, and have already been accepted. They will soon be leaving, with only technical details left to settle," said Tulus.

According to the agreement, Tulus explained, the participants will work in Japan for a period of five years. After that, they can either return to Indonesia or choose to continue working in Japan. They also have the option to seek employment with Japanese companies in Indonesia. This initiative is part of UMM Vocational's commitment to its diaspora vision—providing internationally recognized vocational education that produces skilled and independent generations through a skill and job center.
On the other hand, one of the participants, Habiburahman from Padang, expressed his happiness that his dream of working abroad had come true. After completing his year-long training at the UMM Vocational TC, he has officially been hired by a construction company in Saitama District, Japan, with a monthly salary of around IDR 24 million.
