The contribution of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is not only limited to the national level but also internationally. Recently, UMM White Campus was invited to attend the Group of Twenty (G20) event, which took place in Bali on Thursday (20/10). Only 14 private and public universities were invited, even with all ministries of the Republic of Indonesia and representatives from various significant countries that are members of the G20.
There are several essential issues to be discussed on the agenda. It is starting from the fields of trade and health to digital transformation. In addition, it is also related to energy, security, net zero SDGs, and others. The selected campuses have undergone an assessment from the G20 and are considered worthy of discussing related issues. Present representing the White Campus, Deputy Chancellor II of UMM, Dr. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si., explained that the meeting was similar to a summit declaration.
Nazar, his nickname, said that educational institutions have an essential role in the G20. Several campuses will actively contribute to implementing various declarations produced at the international forum. Then it became a global education issue.
He also considered an opportunity to offer the Center of Excellence (CoE) program that UMM had developed to the forum. For example, in the field of digital transformation in the implementation of Digital HUB CoE UMM. Even with the metaverse development and a series of professional schools that support digital transformation.
Interestingly, in that event, the development of the talnet hub was immediately given direction and input through discussions with Ilham Habibie. One of the essential things in the digital transformation program is identifying problems in Indonesia so that the talent hub can be the right solution. "Especially the UMM Digital Hub, which has accelerated to become a solution for the needs of Indonesia's digital human resources," said Nazar.
There are also opportunities in renewable energy because UMM has a micro hydro power plant (PLTMH), often used as a reference for energy development by many parties. This PLTMH is also part of UMM Sharing for the Country, which aims to develop the construction of 1000 PLTMH in various regions.
"Especially in supporting the community's economy. UMM certainly wants to give a maximum contribution to G20. Especially on this occasion, Indonesia is the host," said Nazar.
The G20, or Group of Twenty, is the leading international economic cooperation forum. Its members are countries with the largest economies in the world. In total, 19 countries and 1 European Union institution are part of it. The G20 also represents more than 60% of the world's population, 75% of global trade, and 80% of the world's GDP. The members of this forum include South Africa, the United States of America, Saudi Arabia, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, India, Indonesia, United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Canada, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, Russia, France, China, Turkey, and the United States of America.
