Given new developments in electric cars, the Two Mechatronic Team of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) won first place in the 2022 Energy Efficient Car Competition (KMHE) in the electric car category. The competition, organized by the National Achievement Center (Puspresnas) of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek), will take place from October 7 to November 3 this month. An electric car called the Barqun Speed EV. 05 competes offline at the National Development University (UPN) Veterans Surabaya.
One of the team members, Bima Fatureza Yusvana, explained that they had been on hiatus for two years due to the pandemic. Until finally able to compete again in 2022. "In this competition, we brought many innovations and significant component updates. For example, in the aspect of controlling wiring, tires, and also the legs of the car," said the student majoring in mechanical engineering.
Furthermore, Bima, his nickname, explained that the critical thing they pay attention to is electricity. Some electrical components have to be imported from Switzerland so the car can work optimally. Even with the change in the steering wheel, which was initially flexible, it became stiffer. This adjustable steering wheel is good because it can be moved up and down, but it is considered less comfortable for drivers.
"In addition, we are also increasing the safety of this electric car. In this new version, we added two safeguards: control and outside control. Its function is to minimize damage due to electric short circuits and overcurrent. So the machine will automatically turn off when there is damage and replace the electric fuse without worrying about other engine parts, "he explained.

Regarding the winner, Bima said that the Barqun Speed EV. 05 can save more energy than other teams. This achievement can also be achieved by minimizing the weight of the vehicle and driver.
"Our team chose a driver who is agile and weighs 50 kg. In addition, the vehicle's weight reaches only 35 kg, so the total is only 85 kg. With this lightweight, our car can be better at saving energy," said the student from Malang.
Not alone, Bima was accompanied by six other team members, namely Rofiq Nuryakin, Decha Rizqi Chamin, Yusron Ilham Kurnianto, Hendra Agus Setiawan, Diki Pramana, and Agung Abdillah. Even though he has won, Bima admits he will not be careless in the next competition. Various updates will continue to be carried out by the two Mekatronic teams to produce results in other events.

"Currently, the vehicle we have designed can reach 407 km/kwh. In the future, we want to increase this value to 600 km/kwh. I also hope the mechatronic team will continue their research to make better energy-efficient cars," he concluded.
On the other hand, appreciation was given by Moh. Jufri as the supervisor of LSO Mechatronic UMM. According to him, this victory was due to the hard work and solid cooperation between team members and the coach of Mekatronic team 2, Andinusa Rahmandhika, M.Eng. Even though they occasionally encounter obstacles, they never stop trying to find solutions.
"The first place achievement must also motivate other students to carve and make UMM proud in various events. Be it at the regional, national, and even international levels," he said. (cdr/syi/wil)
