President of Republic Indonesia, Joko Widodo attended Study of Ramadhan 1438 Hijriyah held by Muhammadiyah Regional Leadership of East Java on Saturday (3/6) in University of Muhammadiyah Malang to give nationality advice.

The President told that in the past, Indonesia was a big country and respected by other countries. Indonesia became the pioneer in some dimension, such as education and country development. However, in the last few years, Indonesia is left behind in some aspects because constantly taking care of useless things.

Therefore, President Jokowi assessed the need to restore the character of the Indonesian nation as a great nation. That is to return to a high work ethic, return to high productivity, return to our high discipline, return to high national and state ethics, and return to high ethical society.

Jokowi said, “All those things are in Muhammadiyah. That’s why, I ask all the administrators and members of Muhammadiyah to build good national ethic and good social ethic to become a good nation, so we can focus on positive things only”. People who were attending this event at Hall Dome of UMM gave applause to his statement.

Jokowi explained that, there are three important things that can be taken to solve the problems. First is the awareness of the religious that has been given great space by the state. "Therefore, let us use this great space to restore the spirit of our ukhuwah, our ukhuwah Islamiah, our ukhuwah wathoniyah, and fill each of those spaces to improve the life of our nation and state to be much more better,"

In the field of education, we want to build human resources because of the increasingly fierce competition between countries. Therefore, education should be based on religious values, morality, ethics, integrity, and a good mentality. "Children who are clever but don’t have those values, it will be useless”.

Importantly, the third is to reinforce the values of brotherhood. “Diversity in Indonesia is a destiny from Allah. We have to be grateful and take good care of this gift”.

The event was also confirmed by President Jokowi as UMM's honorary family which was marked by UMM's almamater jacket by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of UMM, Abdul Malik Fadjar. After attending the event, Jokowi greeted the students and participants of Ramadhan Study in the parking area of AR Fachrudin Mosque of UMM before returning to Jakarta.
