Muhammadiyah, born in 1912, had a longer experience compared to the Indonesian state proclaimed by Sukarno and Moh. Hatta in 1945. With that important experience also, Muhammadiyah had a very substantial tradition of democracy (deliberation, tanwir and muktamar). More than that, Muhammadiyah's democratic tradition was inspired by the teachings of Islamic Progress based on the Qur'an and al-Sunnah, which contained noble values of Islamic professionalism.
Therefore, until now, Muhammadiyah had held a five-year national congress (Muktamar) 47 times. As much as that too, Muhammadiyah practised and forged the core values of democracy such as liberty, justice, equality and fraternity.
