Nila Choirun Nailin, an alumnus of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Aquaculture Study Program, was immediately recruited as a Laboratory Analyst at PT Summa Benur. It comes as a result of her participation in the Shrimp Class of Center of Excellence program. Previously, she was sent by the CoE program to do a professional internship there for four months.

Her success in getting a job immediately after graduation was due to the positive correlation between the CoE course materials and the current needs of business and industry.  "While participating in CoE, I gained a lot of knowledge that I did not find in class. Starting from observing shrimp fry, early stadia until harvest to managing Skeletonema sp natural feed by culturing it every day. It's all aligned with the need for direct involvement in the world of shrimp farming," she explained.

Interestingly, Nila also got the equivalent of the final project from the professional class so that she did not need to do a thesis writing project. It is one of the real proofs of UMM in providing a final project mechanism in accordance with the passion and competence of its students' expertise.

In her daily work, Nila is assigned to the laboratory to check for water quality. She also explained that checking the water quality of shrimp fry cultivation media has three parameters, namely physics, chemistry, and biology.

"For physical parameters, we usually check the temperature, salinity, and color of the cultivation water. For chemical parameters, we usually check ph, alkalinity, and TOM (Total Organic Matter). For biological parameters, we observe plankton and bacteria," she added.

Furthermore, the 3.96 GPA achiever is also grateful that through Shrimp CoE, she has gained a lot of new knowledge that is rarely obtained if not directly faced with situations and conditions in the field. Luckily, UMM is able to bring together its students with DUDI to provide a forum for practice after getting the theoretical knowledge gained during lectures.

Finally, he advised all students to remain consistent and never be lazy in studying, always improving skills and also strengthening relationships. Participating in CoE is also a strategic way to be able to work immediately and independently without long waiting. Many companies need the skills that have been learned in each CoE at UMM.
