Scopus Publication should be deleted from the mandatory requirements for professors in Indonesia. Dr. Suharsiwi M.Pd emphasized it in a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) of an academic paper on lecturer advancement administration. The doctoral representatives from universities throughout Indonesia attended the discussion organized by the Directorate of Postgraduate Programs at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang UMM) on August 9, 2023.
Suharsiwi, the Coordinator of Academic Script Writing Affairs, stated that research is one of the responsibilities of lecturers to fulfill the Tri Dharma of Universities. Mainly to develop and disseminate knowledge as a contribution. However, the necessity of internationalization of publications within Scopus-indexed publications has negative records.
"Scopus publication demands making some lecturers finally choose shortcuts. Thus the emergence of predatory journals, scientific work jockey, and so on. It gets worse when a lecturer has published a scopus-indexed journal but the journal is discontinued. This causes lecturers to lose money and effort during the writing process so they end up taking shortcuts," she explained.
There is also another effect of the negative practice of publishing Scopus-indexed journals. Namely, personal or group arrogance towards others, which causes the academic world not to be favorable. These things are not in the spirit of integrity and morals that should be the spirit of education.

Therefore, the lecturer at Universitas Muhammadiyah Jakarta and the academic writing team hopes that the findings of the study can be evaluated and realized by the Ombudsman. Thus, it can immediately provide policy changes that are more helpful to educators or lecturers, especially in the publication performance, the achievement of professors, and so on.
Meanwhile, the Chairman of Ombudsman RI, Dr. Mokh Najih, M.H., responded that the Ombudsman is ready to review the academic paper. Hence, the findings of the lecturers will continue as a report. But it can also be realized and can help implement higher education.
"The Ombudsman does have an important role and responsibility in the context of state and government administration. This is stipulated in the Ombudsman Law number 37 of 2008 as a state institution that oversees the implementation of public services. All those included in public services will be monitored, including universities," explained Najih.
Furthermore, he hopes universities can continue collaborating and synergizing with the Ombudsman. Thus, good public service delivery can be realized. According to him, discussions like this are an opportunity that can be maintained. Working hand in hand to realize the best quality of education implementation. (Put/Zak/Wil)
