Not many people know aware about the social problems happened in hospitals. Social workers have responsibility to manage and solve problems of patients. The Director of Batu Baptis Hospital, dr. Dolly Irbantoro, MMRS attended gust lecture held by Social Welfare study program on Wednesday (30/5), saying “Social work is a process gained through education. It has values and knowledge also skills to improve individuals and society”.
According to dr.Dolly, social workers have very important role for medical, that is why is becomes a course of Social Welfare study program. Related to the theme “The Prospects of Medical Workers”, dr. Dolly revealed that there are many diseases caused by biological, psychological, and social problems. Social workers are expected to be able to handle or at least minimize problems of patients. He said, “Actually, a disease can be caused by physical factor, biological factor, or social culture”. During this time, it is difficult to handle social problem faced by patients. Medical workers have less ability to handle them. But, it can be handled by social medical workers.
The guest lecture began with the signing of MoU between Social Welfare study program and Batu Baptis Hospital which was aimed to run cooperation in providing a place for Social Welfare students to practice at Batu Baptis Hospital. Dr. Oman Sukmana, M.Si was as the Head of Social Welfare Study Program expected that this cooperation will be beneficial for both. Oman said, “We expect that Social Welfare study program and Batu Baptis Hospital will be beneficial for both of us”. (lus)
