Encouraging Youths to Reach Dreams, UMM Lecturers Write Motivation Books

Sholahudin Al-Fatih's, SH., MH journey to becoming a lecturer and writer was not simple. Being born on the coast of Gresik made him unable to dream big things. He got many failures and rejections when he was still a student. One of them was when it was rejected by the campus press organization.

“The articles that I wrote during Senior High School (SMA) were often called ugly by the seniors. When I was in college, I was refuse to be part of the campus press organization, because my writing did not meet the standards. However, I made all the failures and rejections as motivation to write better, "said Fatih.

Thanks to his persistence, now Fatih is known as a reliable writer. This lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has published four motivational genre books. All of the books he has written are inspired by experiences during college.

The latest book he has written is an anthology book entitled Young, Wandering stories: The Art of Hunting for Inspiration from a Travel Abroad. Fatih revealed that taking education abroad is a difficult thing for some people. Cost, language, and time limitations are the main reasons.

 "After getting the opportunity to study in Malaysia, I realized that going abroad is not as difficult as I imagined. The funny thing is, the villagers thought I dropped out of college and decided to become a migrant worker, ”joked this Law Faculty lecturer.

Even though studying abroad is easy, Fatih realizes that not many people know it. Because of that, this Gresik-born lecturer invited 15 of his friends who had gone abroad to write an antology book.

"I have been writing this book since 2014. But in the middle of the road, my friends and I encountered many obstacles. Some friends finally stopped halfway. Until 2020, there are only nine writers left, including me, ”he explained.

Fatih also hopes that with this book. Students will be inspired and have the courage to try studying abroad. "There are many lessons that we will get when we travel abroad. I don't know from the culture, customs, and habits that we will not find in this country, ”he concluded at the end of the interview session. (apg / syif / wil)
