Referring to the KPPS Guidebook 2014 issued by the General Election Commission (GEC), VOG stands for Voting Organizer Group. It is an ad hoc committee formed by the Voting Committee (VC) on behalf of the Regency/City GEC to conduct voting and vote counting. As the voting day came closer, a lot of content on social media mentioned the jokes and gags about KPPS.

A lecturer in Government Science at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Dr. Salahudin, S.IP., M.Si., M.P.A., said that the jokes about VOG officers are an insult. They are the heroes of democracy in Indonesia.

"I would say that the jokes that are spreading on social media are an insult towards democracy. Don't see VOG as officers of the lowest level, they are heroes," he said.

He explained that, despite their temporary assignment, the duties carried out by VOG members are very heavy. It is like a building, if the initial foundation is poor, it will affect the others. Based on article 30 paragraph 1 PKPU number 8 of 2022, VOG has great duties and authority. These include announcing the permanent voter list at the polling station, submitting the permanent voter list to the witnesses of the election participants present, the polling station supervisor to the election participants, and carrying out the voting and counting of votes at the polling station. In addition, it also makes the official report and certificate of the results of the voting and counting of votes to carry out additional tasks provided by the KPU, both the Provincial KPU, Regency / City GEC, PPK and PPS are by the laws and regulations.

Based on this, VOG members are eligible to receive a reward of 1.1 million for members and 1.2 for the head of the VOG for a one-month term of office. Salahuddin also said that the salary given was proportional to the responsibilities taken on.

"I think the salary of 1.1 million per month along with health insurance until the end of life is adequate. If it possible, it should be increased considering that the responsibility is very big," he added.

Salahuddin also appreciated the willingness of the youth to become VOG members. For him, the presence of the youth in this election will greatly impact democracy. The presence of the youth in VOG can also become a process of learning democracy directly. "The minimum age limit for KPPS is 17 years old, so I think this is an opportunity for the youth to learn about good democracy," he said.

Finally, he said that it is widely known that the youth hold full control in many aspects of our lives today. Many of them become influencers and have great influence through social media. He hopes that this condition can provide many positive values to the democratic party. "Hopefully, the presence of young people can be an antidote to the hoaxes that are circulating," he concluded. (rin/wil/put)
