University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) Lecturer Pradana Boy ZTF, Ph.D. becomes an Indonesian researcher who participates a world caliber research. Pradana was in Florence, Italy in order to attend an important meting Second Project Meeting GREASE Research Project Radicalization, Secularism and The Governance of Religion: Bringing Together European and Asian Perspectives, 17-18 June 2019.
Several universities and study center in the world led by Prof Anna Triandafylidou from the European University Institute, involved in this research for about 3 years since October 2018. “On December 2018, we met for our kick-off meeting or first meeting. We will keep on meeting in a consortium until 2021,” said Pradana, contacted from Florence.
This project was funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 program research and innovation. GREASE is attempting to unravel the paradox of religious radicalization growth in the middle of secularization. This project verifies the claim that migrant integration in Europe has failed caused by their second generation youth already marginalized and radicalized, with some of them turning to jihadist and terrorism networks.

“When Europe struggles to cope with religious diversity and radicalization, it is very useful to understand how other regions deal with these issues. In doing that, GREASE project hopes to deliver innovative academic thinking on secularization and radicalization and offer insights for governance with a special focus on preventing radicalization,” he said.
Several involved countries are Australia (Deakin University), UK (Bristol University), Turkey (Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation), Morocco (University Muhammad V), Italy (European University Institute), India (Jawaharlal Nehru University), Bulgaria (Center for the Study of Democracy), German (SPIA Research Communications), Indonesia (UMM), Malaysia (SIRD Kuala Lumpur).
“This is the second meeting, the agenda will be a presentation of the research progress report. This phase report was in form of a 6000 words report and a short presentation about the country profile,” said Pradana who served as Assistant Staff Special to the President of the Republic of Indonesia in the field of International Religion. Pradana also carried a title as an international interfaith peace ambassador.

That honorary degree was carried by Pradana after getting a chance as an International Center for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID) in Wina, Australia. Which intensively, discussing important problems that often becomes a barrier of a harmonious relationship between religion and culture.
Pradana incorporated into the International networkKAICIID Fellow Network. “Other sensitive issues will always be discussed, such as the Palestine-Israel conflict, or the genocide issue in Myanmar. However, because the main purpose is to find a way out and campaigning for peace, the appearance of those sensitive issues does not affect the dialogue process,” (joh)
