The rainy season is a challenging time for the driver. Wet and slippery roads and heavy rain can affect vehicle performance and driving safety. Therefore, vehicle engine maintenance during the rainy season is very important. As a lecturer in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Dr. Ir. Achmad Fauzan Hery Soegiharto, M.T. provides various tips for vehicle maintenance, especially in the rainy season.
Fauzan, his nickname, said that it is important for the driver to check all parts of their vehicle before the rainy season. Starting from the exterior to the internal components of the vehicle.
"Make sure the tires are in good condition because it requires a stronger grip. The driver must pay attention to their tire lines to avoid smoothness. It is to minimize hydroplating or slipping when the road is wet and slippery. In addition, the brakes must be checked," he said.

He also suggests to take a look at the vehicle's electrical system. Water and electricity do not always go well together. Thus, make sure the vehicle's electrical system is protected from moisture and rainwater, especially if there are any parts located under the vehicle. Ensure that the vehicle's lubrication system is well maintained as well. It will help to prevent damage caused by water.
"Especially for cars, there is an addition to check the cabin seals and ensure there are no leaks that could lead to any trouble during the rain. It also includes checking the air conditioning, which is important to prevent any dew inside the cabin. For the exterior, the wipers should be water-checked as it's one of the key components to maintain stability during the rain," he added.

Last but not least, it is important to keep an eye on the vehicle's body parts and paintwork. Although these are not technical components, it can be more easily corroded and damaged during the rainy season. The preparation and maintenance of a vehicle can have a significant impact on safety and comfort. Hence, Fauzan reminds us that everything must be in optimal condition.
"We need to remember that regular maintenance is important. Keep a regular maintenance schedule for your vehicle to make sure everything is functioning properly throughout the year, both during the dry and rainy seasons," he concluded. (Nel/Wil/Put)
