Four Laboratories of UMM Get ISO 9001 and ISO 17025

As many as four laboratories of University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) has won ISO accreditation from the National Accreditation Committee (KAN) on September 20, 2017. The laboratory were the Nutrition Laboratory, the Biotechnology Laboratory, the Biology Laboratory, and the Food Technology Science Laboratory (ITP) which achieved ISO 9001.

Meanwhile, certification tests that achieved ISO 17025 were proxima testing from Nutrition Lab, total sugar test and protein test from Lab Biotechnology, total plate count test (TPC) from Biology Lab and antocyanin test from ITP Lab. ISO itself was an international organization for recognized standardization of world.

UMM Central Laboratory Head Dr Ir Elfi Anis Saati MP explained that this achievement needed to be appreciated. "In this accreditation certification, the four laboratories not only get the ISO 9001 recognition of quality management standard but also the ISO 7025 which is a standard of testing and calibration laboratory accreditation," he explained.

Elfi also explained through the ISO 17025 recognition the four laboratories would be more credible in releasing laboratory test results, especially beyond of teaching and learning activities. "In addition to service testing by students and lecturers, the laboratory also serves testing from outsiders, including the general public, state institutions, private and UKM," he explained.

Within UMM itself Elfi said, there were a total of 42 laboratories consist of 25 exact labs and 17 social laboratories. Currently, the UMM Central Laboratory is also preparing several social laboratories such as Psychology Laboratory, Language Laboratory and Communication Science Laboratory to get the ISO 9001 certification.

In the future, UMM also would prepares several supporting laboratories such as Halal Inspection Agency (LPH) which has been instructed by Muhammadiyah Central Executive to achieve ISO.

"To support the LPH, the Central Laboratory will also focus on preparing other laboratory accreditation test and calibration, such as lard and pig amino acid on a product. Some laboratories will be prepared including Pharmaceutical and Chemical Laboratories," added this ITP department lecturer. (Naz)
