The University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) encourages students to develop themselves in an academic aspect. The White Campus also provides facilities in non-academic elements. It is evidenced by the 2021 UMM Championship Mobile Legend Bang-Bang (MLBB) event held by MLCIDUMM. This competition was held on last Friday (19/11) and carried out online. The match broadcast can be watched on the YouTube platform and the Zoom application.
Nizar Muttaqin, as the head of MLCID UMM, said that this UMM Championship event was the first national-level E-Sport championship that they held. The initiation of this championship started from the student body, which continued to push for an e-sports championship to be stored immediately.
"Initially, it was UMM Student Affairs who kept pushing us to hold competitions in the e-sports branch. Moreover, this branch is getting more and more taken into account," he explained.

Nizar, his nickname, explained that 56 teams from universities throughout Indonesia participated in this championship. The system applied is knockout, so once a team loses, it is eliminated from the race for the championship. Meanwhile, the semi-finals must win two wins in the preliminary round with a one-win mechanism. Finally, each team must get three wins in the final round to become champion.
Asked about the obstacles, he admitted that the lack of members was one of their problems. Although there are quite a few Mobile Legend players among students, only a handful are serious about it. Moreover, this club was only founded two years ago, in 2019.
"To overcome these obstacles, we finally opened open recruitment as a committee. So that human resources can be sufficient and make this championship smoother and more organized," said Nizar.

Although there were many challenges during the implementation, the UMM Championship MLBB championship received a good response from other university participants. Nizar said that if there were another MLBB competition at UMM, they would enthusiastically register and compete. The first competition winner was won by the Veterans National Development University (UPN) Surabaya. The second place was won by the University of Muhammadiyah Riau (UMRI), and the UMM team won third place.
The UMM Informatics Study Program student hopes that e-sports among students will develop, especially on the UMM White Campus. Even with the development of other e-sport branches, it is not limited to MLBB only. "Hopefully, from here, we can give birth to professional e-sport athletes who are reliable," he concluded.
