University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) is constantly creating new innovations to improve the quality of education. Most recently, by utilizing digital technology, the Faculty of Law UMM launched the First Virtual Law Laboratory in Indonesia, last September 22. Which is called the Metaverse Moot Court of the Constitutional Court. The virtual laboratory is the result of collaboration between FH UMM and the Informatics Study Program, Faculty of Engineering UMM and the Metaverse Center of Excellence (CoE).
One of the team members, Nur Putri Hidayah, A.Md., SH, MH, said that the advancement of technology must be utilized optimally. One of them is the use of metaverse as an Faculty of Law laboratory. The students can get the experience and learning of moot court in the digital world. There is no need to queue for a long time to use the physical room.

"This virtual laboratory can be accessed flexibly. It can be accessed using mobile phones, laptops, and virtual reality (VR) devices. The trial practicum process can also be done properly without reducing the importance of the trial itself. Alhamdulillah, this virtual laboratory is also the first virtual court in Indonesia," she explained.
The Law lecturer added, there will be further development in the future to ensure that it does not only provide a constitutional court session, but also various other courtrooms that support students to learn how the trial process takes place.
"The mechanism of student practicum in this Virtual Law Laboratory is not much different from the practice conducted in laboratories in general. It's just that the location is virtual, later we will also develop various other trial practicums," said Putri.

On the other hand, the Dean of the Faculty of Law UMM Prof. Dr. Tongat, SH, M.Hum. appreciated the innovation of the researchers and lecturers. According to him, this the first virtual laboratory not only to initiate, but also to become a model for other universities. Whether it is public, private, or fellow Muhammadiyah. Hopefully, this breakthrough can be a reference for other campuses.
"We will definitely give this laboratory intense attention so that it won't just go viral for a while and then disappear. It must be continued and used optimally. This kind of innovation can answer various challenges in legal education at universities, ranging from the limitations of moot court rooms to the utilization of digital technology. It would be a waste if the advanced technology is not utilized optimally," he concluded. (Faq/Wil/Put)
