Various programs of Muhammadiyah Malang University (UMM) align with the key initiatives of Indonesia’s President, Prabowo Subianto. Two of these focus areas are energy and water, implemented through the micro-hydro power plants (PLTMH) that UMM has been developing for years in several locations around Malang. One such PLTMH has been established at the Sumber Maron tourist site in Malang Regency.

The results of the Community Development Driving Professor Program (P3M) have even become an educational attraction and are ready to serve as a model for various regions in Indonesia. This was emphasized by the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology (Diktisaintek), Prof. Fauzan, who also attended and visited the Sumber Maron PLTMH.

He stated that his visit, along with the Kemendiktisaintek delegation, was an effort to discover and explore best practices on how university innovations can be implemented and benefit the community. This includes examining how the PLTMH can enhance the local economy and social well-being.

According to him, it is not just about how technology is implemented but also about the economic impact it creates when technology is present. Furthermore, in its development, universities indeed require an ecosystem to enable the existing technology to grow and advance further.

He also explained that among the 17 priority programs of President Prabowo, three key areas stand out: food self-sufficiency, energy, and water. All three have been effectively implemented by UMM. According to him, the PLTMH developed by UMM can certainly be applied in other regions across Indonesia.

On the other hand, the Regent of Malang, Drs. Sanusi, explained that UMM's PLTMH has long supported Sumber Maron. It not only serves as a push for green and environmentally friendly energy but also offers a unique appeal as an educational tourism destination.

"In addition to providing significant green energy that benefits the community and local MSMEs, UMM's PLTMH also attracts many tourists eager to learn how it works. Hopefully, similar initiatives can be developed in other areas of Malang as well as other regions across Indonesia," he emphasized.

Meanwhile, UMM Rector Prof. Nazaruddin Malik, M.Si., stated that UMM plays a significant role in the development of Malang Regency, one of which is through the PLTMH projects established in several locations. According to him, this is also how the White Campus translates President Prabowo's programs in the aspects of food and energy self-sufficiency, promoting environmental sustainability to advance Indonesia.(wil/ind)
