Most Indonesian people still believe that taking a shower at night can cause rheumatism. Even though health experts have stated that this is a myth. In fact, rheumatism can occur due to joint inflammation caused by hormonal, genetic, or traumatic. This statement was explained by the head of the Physiotherapy study program of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Dimas Sondak Irawan, Ph.D., in the Symposium "Novel Physiotherapy Approaches and Physical Rehabilitation in Community Setting." The activity took place on March 13, 2023, with a blended system.
Dimas, his nickname, also explained the other things related to health myths and facts people often say in society. From the fact that broken bones can connect on their own to the myth of clicking joints so that they sound 'crack' can cause the calcification of joints.
"Cracking sound, called popping is not dangerous and is not the cause of calcification of the joints. Except, if there is popping there is pain in it, it can be said that there is an indication, " said Dimas.

He also explained that traction in the world of health could increase height is a fact. When someone does continuous lumbar traction for 25 minutes, it can increase by 8.60 mm in height. But the increase in height only lasted for ten minutes.
Lastly, Dimas said that someone who often carries heavy bags could cause scoliosis, which is true. However, this only causes non-structural scoliosis, not structural scoliosis. "Misconceptions related to health problems can occur in society because of habits and a culture that develops in Indonesia. Therefore, health experts and prospective health professionals must provide clear and good education to them. So that misconceptions in society will not continue," he concluded.
The symposium organized by the UMM Physiotherapy study program collaborated with the Mara University of Technology Malaysia. Interestingly, there were many reliable presenters such as Prof. Mayda, Dr. Mohd. Haizir Abd. Sorry, Mr. Mohd. Azlan bin Mohd. Shapie, to Mr. Mohd. Wise.
Meanwhile, UMM Deputy Chancellor IV Dr. Sidik Sunaryo, SH., M.Si, M.Hum. appreciated this scientific activity. According to him, the event is one way to find solutions to various problems.
"This symposium is expected to produce constructive formulations and ideas. So that all health-related problems, especially in the world of physiotherapy, can be resolved immediately. Apart from that, he also wants to have study visits between universities, both from students and lecturers," he concluded. (put/*/zak/wil)
