Completing studies at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang is not the end of the struggle, but it marks the beginning of the real-life situations that will be faced. Moreover, the digital era has strived rapidly and can be a boomerang for the young generation if they do not utilize it. Hence, expanding networking for life supplies is necessary. Aligning with the idea, Diar Nurbintoro, the Director of the Non-Aligned Movement Centre for South-South Technical Cooperation (NAM-CSSTC), at the UMM’s 109th graduation, said that the digital era, with its great allure and advanced technological development, has broadened the network of change in all life sectors.
As Diar noted, education is the most striking change in technological development. He thinks that present education has transformed from discourse into real action and can significantly impact Indonesia because the learning process is no longer limited by geographical boundaries. Instead, it can be conducted with an internet connection in one touch.

“Currently, not only students who need to understand (to operate) technology, but also educators who need to explore this field because it is a challenge in education, like the urgency of digital literacy, which requires all of us to master critical thinking skills as not to miss the recent information,” said he.
Furthermore, the Director of the NAM–CSSTC also noted that amid the diversity of the digital era nowadays, educators cannot be careless but should make it an opportunity utilized for learning methods. A more personalized learning approach is one applicable example for students.
“Technology also helps the Research and Innovation Domain by facilitating it to get information and creative solutions globally. Not only that, in entrepreneurship, (technology) assists in marketing products and services that can be disseminated efficiently. Therefore, it is a great loss if you do not utilize the digital era since it will be advantageous if implemented well,” asserted the Director of the NAM-CSSTC.

In line with what Diar Nurbintoro said, the Coordinating Minister for Human Development and Culture Affairs of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Muhajidir Effendy, M.AP. emphasized that by 2045, the graduates, who are present today, will be the golden generation when Indonesia is 100 years old. That way, graduates need to continue to develop their potential and make (their) university proud as alumni.
"Don't stop learning and developing your potential because millions of scholars who want to have a good fate or want to change their fate, will pick up their luck first if you don't have strengths," Muhadjir said.
Muhadjir also advised to consistently apply the knowledge obtained at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) because students have been sufficiently equipped with the Center of Excellence (CoE), which allows them to hone more skills aligning with the needs of work in an era identical to technology.
On the same occasion, the Head of the Higher Education Service Institution (Trans.: Lembaga Layanan Pendidikan Tingkat Tinggi [LLDIKTI]) VII of East Java, Prof. Dr. Dyah Sawitri, SE., MM., also said that with CoE, UMM becomes one of the campuses with a Management Information System Education Quality Higher that running well and has been acknowledged by the Indonesian National Qualification Framework No. 8 of 2012 and the National Standard for Higher Education No. 3 of 2020.
“I believe UMM is the right choice for the graduates in front of me because it can facilitate students and ensure they immediately work after graduating,” said she.
Dyah Sawitri further noted that besides facilitating students with CoE, UMM has prioritized social issues that can hamper academics, like bullying, sexual violence, corruption, etc., by explicitly dealing with them. It can be a plus point for UMM because it tries to prosper its students. Furthermore, Dyah, as the LLDIKTI VII of East Java representative, hopes the graduates and young generation will always be enthusiastic about gaining knowledge and utilizing the facilities that UMM has prepared because the benefits are enormous for the future of UMM students or alumni.
The Rector of the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Prof. Dr. Fauzan M.Pd, also said that the Center of Excellence (CoE) of UMM aims to prepare (UMM) students and alumni to face the demographical bonus and readily adapt to the rapidly growing digital era.
“Hopefully, future graduates can compete in the professional world by implementing the knowledge they gained at UMM. It is because UMM has prepared excellent human resources to meet the needs of the current era,” said Fauzan. (imh/ri/mah)
