Attending the 88th Graduation Ceremony, Puan Maharani Invites UMM to Get Involved in Developing High Quality of Human Resources in Indonesia

The 88th graduation ceremony University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) was held on Saturday (12/5) in UMM Dome attended by the Coordinating Minister of Human Development and Cultural Affairs the Republic of Indonesia, Puan Maharani. This is the second period of graduation ceremony of UMM in 2018.

In her scientific speech in front of 1264 graduates, Puan stated that that globalization era requires a country to be able to compete with others. This depends on the capability of human resources and how to manage the potential in a country. High quality of human resources depends on level of education of people. Puan also appreciated Muhammadiyah that always takes care in realizing good education. She said, “University of Muhammadiyah Malang gets involved in developing human resources in Indonesia”.

In order to face the rapid development of business and industry, a graduate is expected to be a pioneer of development in society. That is why, Puan asks the UMM graduates to watch out their behaviors. She said, “The graduates must uphold the character and keep the integrity as the UMM graduates”.

Furthermore, License certificate was given by the Head of National Professionalism Certification Agency (BNSP), Sumarna F. Abdurrahman to the Professional Certification of UMM. according to the Rector of UMM, Fauzan, this license can help the UMM graduates to get both national and international recognition. Fauzan said, “From now on, UMM has right to hold professional certification program according the the scheme that has been assigned”.

Minister of Education and Culture the Republic of Indonesia, Muhadjir Effendy attended this graduation ceremony. He said that UMM graduates must be ready to face the future. He expects that they will continue to innovate and bring the good name of UMM wherever they are.

Muhadjir said, “Be confident and believe that UMM educates young generation who can uphold the sovereignty and greatness of this nation”.

After attending the graduation ceremony, Puan came to Sengkaling to attend Coloring and Drawing Competition in East Java in Sengkaling Park. This competition under theme “Indonesian Smart Culture in Color” was collaboration between UMM and the Ministry of Education and Culture. There were 1512 participants who are kindergarten students and primary school students.

Puan hopes that the same event will be held regularly because it is important to grow the imagination of children. She said, “This event makes children happy. They can draw their imaginations through drawing”. Moreover, Puan advised Bidikmisi scholarship grantees to use the scholarship wisely. “You have to use this scholarship wisely because you are smart and Indonesia is proud of you”. (lus)
