CHAIRMAN of the central board (PP) of Muhammadiyah, Dr. Haedar Nasir, M.Si, took time to deliver the speech at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) after visiting former Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) KH. Ahmad Hasyim who were treated at a hospital in Malang, Tuesday (10/1).
Haedar conveyed that, college’s alumni like UMM should be able to produce graduates with good grades. By citing the criteria from book of Indonesia Berkemajuan, Haedar explained the absolute criteria that must be owned by UMM graduates, which then named as the characteristic of indonesian progressive human, one of them namely religiosity.
"Surely, the religiosity which is understood by Muhammadiyah is dynamic religiosity. Its mean, UMM’s graduates should be able to deploy its pieties for environment usefulness, " Haedar said.
Beside religiosity, other character whichmust be owned by Progresive Indonesian Human was an independent character. "The independent character that is able to lift theirself and nation’s dignity. Also do not focus on the position of ourselves as an under-handed, " Haedar asserted.
Character of smart and knowledge also should be owned by progressive indonesian human. The Holy Book of Alquran itself, Haedar added, truely have mentioned clearly to this character with the term "Ulul Albab". That character according to Haedar, only owned by those who were openly accepted different views and thoughts. "The character of ulul albab will select various views and ideas which are the best," he said.
The last character of progressive indonesian human according to Haedar was the man who has the social solidarity character. Haedar rated, the tradition of mutual aid that had been staying as an indonesian’s character will be fade. "On the contrary, among the many tests of our national life, the character of social solidarity should be kept," he said.
In his visit, Haedar also advised to create UMM as a center of excellence for people and nation. "UMM must be the representation of the charity effort and other Muhammadiyah’s universities by fulfilling number of principles, namely an independent, professional, advanced, modern and excellent," Haedar concluded .
