Dzikru Izzuddin, a graduate of the Faculty of Islamic Religion (FIR), University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), successfully graduated without a thesis through memorizing the Quran. He also often wins various musabaqah hifdzil quran (MHQ) events and often gets educational funding from one of the mosques in Malang.

Dzikru explains that, right after graduating from the Islamic boarding school, he already memorized 30 Juz of the Quran. To maintain his practice, he participated in the UMM Student Activity Unit (SME) of the UMM Musabaqah Tilawatil Quran (MTQ) in order to have friends and ustaz to memorize his recitation. When he was a new student, the local student of Malang never crossed his mind to be able to take part in the national-level competition. According to him, he could not fight his inferiority complex when he saw friends who were better than him. However, the motivation from his ustaz made him brave.

“One of the national MHQ competitions that I participated in took place at the University of Muhammadiyah Riau. The event was held during the Pekan Olahraga dan Seni (Porseni) event. At that time, my team and I had to compete with various other large campuses. Alhamdulillah, we managed to bring the title,” he said.

Dzikru said that every time he participates in the MHQ competition, he also always learns the interpretations. Moreover, he deepens his knowledge from several books to increase his knowledge when answering questions. Interestingly, Dzikru had the opportunity to convert his courses from various achievements. In addition, he was also successfully memorizing 30 juz of the Quran. He can also join the Merdeka Belajar program with a minimum memorization of 5 uaz and make him free of thesis.

“I memorized 5 Juz directly to FAI in one sitting. It also requires proof of several award certificates that I have so that the requirements are met,” he said.

Moreover, with his own abilities, he also managed to get tuition fees from one of the mosques in Malang from semester 1 to 7. However, at the end of semester 7, the tuition fee was cut off for various reasons. “Alhamdulillah, there is always a way out of every problem. It turns out that the FAI UMM immediately took over all my education costs, so that I could become a bachelor,” he said.

Finally, he said that he was a very lucky person because he could study for free by memorizing the Quran. “I am very grateful because UMM is a campus that really accommodates its students to be able to achieve achievements without the need to spend a lot of money. In fact, we are often financed,” he said. (ri/wil/put)
