Committed to increasing halal awareness globally, Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) attracts halal institutions from Malaysia. One of them received a team visit from the International partnership and Global Event Serunai Commerce Malaysia on 9 February 2023. Their arrival was to collaborate with the UMM Halal Centre.
Intan Suriya Ramly as Director of International partnership and Global Event Serunai said that her company is an institution that is indeed engaged in the halal field. Including conducting halal certification for small, medium to large companies. In addition, it also has the competence of human resources and technology in an effort to unite the halal activist community in the world, starting with mini ASEAN (Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand).
"We also have a commitment to make it easier for Muslims to the needs and information of halal products. Namely through halal inspection, halal authentication, publication or socialisation that supports many parties. In my opinion, the UMM Halal Centre is a strategic party for cooperation," explained Intan.
On the other hand, Prof. Dr. Ir. Elfi Anis Saati, MP. as Head of PS P3 Halal UMM said that there are a series of fields that can be collaborated. Mainly in halal assistance for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) through the UMM Halal Centre. Even with Muhammadiyah halal inspection institutions and local governments.
"This is an effort to increase Muslim entrepreneurs who have halal-certified products. Even with mutually agreed standards so that they can be used to make it easier to create a network of product information, outlets, and souvenir shops that are halal certified," explained Elfi.
The two parties provide input to strengthen the halal ecosystem and industrialisation in the world, especially ASEAN. Then also design a joint curriculum in training and mentoring activities for stakeholders which is in line with the goals and desires of PS P3 Halal in forming UMM Halal CoE.

"We hope that the programmes and activities carried out can increase halal awareness for producers, consumers and the role of the campus in preparing Islamic and global human resources. As Allah says in surah Al-Anbiya' verse 107, And we did not send you, but to be a mercy for the universe (rahamatan liralamin)," said Elfi.
The cooperation plan also received a good response from UMM Rector Dr. Fauzan M.Pd. He is very supportive of UMM's internationalization programs and targets. Primarily to prepare human resources to welcome Indonesia into the world halal center 2024 and Indonesia Emas 2045.
"I think this collaboration can be realized in various aspects. For example, scientific activities such as workshops or seminars training or mentoring, research, and joint publications. It can also be an opportunity for lecturers and students to exchange internships as Serunai's work partners in other Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) countries," hoped Fauzan. (cdr/zak/wil)
