Bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Thailand has been going on for a long time. However, the presence of the Covid-19 pandemic changed the policy of collaboration between the two. To find out about the latest developments in the cooperation between the two countries, the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) International Relations Study Program held a webinar with the theme Quo Vadis Indonesia - Thailand Relations. This event was held on Monday (08/03) on the Zoom and Youtube channel of FISIP UMM.
On the agenda, Dr. Fauzan, M.Pd. as the Rector of UMM, said that this was a good opportunity for students and webinar participants. They can certainly add to their various treasures of knowledge about the outside world, especially Thailand.
"Hopefully, we can use this opportunity as well as possible. Apart from adding to our wealth of knowledge about foreign countries, especially Thailand, it can also be the first step to expand dreams and plans to neighboring countries, "he added.

On the same occasion, the Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand, Rachmat Budiman, S.H., said that Indonesia-Thailand had built cooperation in the fields of politics, law, and security. Several programs that have been holding include the Parliamentarian Friendship Group (TIPG), joint military training, and orangutan repatriation since 2007-2020.
"With several cooperation programs that have established between Indonesia and Thailand, it is hoped that in the future. It can increase the potential of each country. For example, it could spur an increase in exports and investment from both parties, "said Rachmat.

Rachmat did not deny that the Covid-19 pandemic had also changed the existing cooperation policies. Meetings that are usually held offline inevitably have to be held online. However, the communication between the two continues thanks to increasingly advanced technology. He also encouraged increased collaboration between Indonesia and Thailand in the aspect of education to create superior Human Resources (HR) and able to compete at the global level.
"Cooperation in the field of education is very significant because we can create superior human resources. I am also very grateful to UMM because it has become one of the parties involved in forming good human resources. Hopefully, we can contribute to the development of the two countries, ”explained the UNESCAP Indonesia representative. (syi/wil)
