Managing an event is not just about the technical execution, but also about how the event manager conveys a compelling story to leave a lasting impression on the audience. This was emphasized by the Founder of Analogi Organizer, Ahmad Faiz Firojabi, during a public relations (PR) discussion held by the Communication Science program at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM). The event, which took place on February 14, was attended by hundreds of students who actively asked questions and participated in the discussion.

According to Faiz, storytelling in event management is a crucial aspect because it significantly impacts the success of the event being organized. Faiz emphasized that there are three key elements in planning a successful event: understanding product knowledge, identifying the target audience, and addressing the client's challenges.

"If you can grasp these three aspects, then determining the right event concept will become much easier. Moreover, these three elements can serve as guidelines to ensure clarity in the purpose and objectives of the event we are organizing," explained Faiz, who is also an alumnus of the Communication Science program at UMM.

In addition to these three aspects, he also highlighted the importance of a key message in every event. According to him, the success of an event is not only measured by its execution on the day of the event but also by the strategies implemented after the event concludes. "The 'after event' phase must be part of the main strategy. An evaluation is necessary to ensure that the key message intended to be conveyed has been received and understood by the audience," he added.

Another crucial aspect that should not be overlooked is achieving the event's objectives and ensuring legal aspects such as a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) are in place, even if the event budget is limited. Faiz believes that an MoU can help avoid unwanted risks and ensure all parties understand their respective roles.

This discussion aims to provide a foundational understanding as preparation for students undertaking communication science practicums based on real clients. In this way, students can gain practical experience directly connected to the business and entrepreneurial world.

Through this inaugural lecture, students of Communication Science at UMM are also expected to gain a deeper understanding of event management concepts. They are encouraged to design and execute events that are not only engaging but also have a positive impact on society.

Meanwhile, the practicum coordinator lecturer, Jamroji, also emphasized the importance of publicity in the success of an event. An event is considered successful, Jamroji stated, when its objectives are achieved and participants receive clear information through the publicity conducted. "Ensure your publicity stands out, as it is one of the most critical components of the grading in this practicum," he asserted.(*/wil/ind)
