Reog and Percussion Welcome 540 Foreign Students of Darmasiswa Participants

ARRIVAL of 540 foreign students of Darmasiswa scholarship holder from Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemdikbud RI) at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM) were welcomed warmly with reog and percussion on Monday, May 8. The arrival of students from 78 countries regarding International Gathering before returning to their own countries after one year learning of  language and culturals in Indonesia.

The entourage of foreign students who just arrived from the bus was immediately greeted by the Reog Ponorogo dance. The carnival became more interesting  after they were greeted by percussion music from Grebeg Pidisia Group while arriving at UMM Helipad. After taking picture at helipad, the entourage along with the Reog and the Dragon carnival that carrying percussion players has escorted the entourage to the end route of the culture carnival at UMM Hall Dome.

Character Building Kemdikbud expert staff Arie Budiman who represented Mendikbud RI expressed his happiness and pride due to participants of Darmasiswa Program has shown the ability to speak Indonesian language and demonstrate the variety of Indonesian culture in that event.

"One year is not a long time to know Indonesia with its outstanding cultural and to master indonesian language fluently. But that narrow time made Darmasiswa participants able to do both things, "he said.

On the other hand, Beaureu of Planning and International Cooperation of Kemdikbud Chairman Ir Suharti MA PhD in his welcoming speech expressed his gratitude for all of the participations in the event in which as closing of Darmasiswa scholarship program for the 2016/2017 academic year. "Hopefully what has been learned by all the participants, it could be really useful and to make knowledge as useful science," Suharti said.

Meanwhile, the Rector of UMM invited the participants who have completed the Darmasiswa scholarship program to be able to continue in learning the language and culture of Indonesia along with 340 foreign students who have been studying at UMM.

In the closing of Darmasiswa program was also showed a variety of arts as a learning outcomes of participants during the 2017 Darmasiswa program. Starting from traditional dance, musical poetry, and stand up comedy. (Naz)
